Are there any rivals subscribers that can do me a favor? Theres an article on Peegs right now about Watford's recent visit. I don't care about what Peegs has to say, but if someone could pick out any quotes by Watford or his family that stand out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. |

Christian Watford and his father Ernest took some time to talk to us today on their drive home to Birmingham, Alabama following a weekend unofficial visit to Bloomington. It was their second trip to Bloomington as they attended Saturday's elite camp and stayed on through till Sunday afternoon to get a good feel for campus life and basketball. "The number one thing that stood out to me was the atmosphere of the campus," said the father. "Second, the coaching staff from top to bottom was real informative on the questions we were asking and what they were looking for. Then third, just the overall support or fan base that Indiana has in place." Watford still plans to take all five official trips It was a family affair this weekend for the Watfords as both mom and Christian's younger siblings made the trip up from Alabama. "I thought it would be good to bring them all here on the unofficial even though we plan to come back on an official," said Ernest Watford. "I wanted to drive up and get a feel for the distance between Birmingham and Indiana. Also it was big here to get on campus, speak to the coaches and get a feel for what we will like and more important Christian is going to like and just support him." Mr. Watford elaborated on point he made about overall support. "My family and I just went downtown to the square and walked around and talked to people around there," said the father. "Talked to them about IU basketball even if though it isn't basketball season and school is not in--you could hear it in their voices how excited they were about the game of basketball and excited about us being on campus even though it was just an elite camp. I can imagine what it might be with 38,000 kids there." The first thoughts out of his son's mouth was the opportunity to meet some well known former Hoosiers. Over 300 former players, managers and coaches were gathering today in nearby French Lick for a alumni reunion. "I got the chance to meet some NBA legends like Isiah Thomas and sit down and talk to him and D.J. White and talk about IU," said Christian Watford. "Even though he did not play for him (Tom Crean), D.J. did talk about what a good coach he is. But he mainly talked about the tradition of IU and the fans and things like that." Ernest Watford had his own chance to talk to Thomas. "We had a chance to talk to Isiah on a personal level or one on one thing," said the father. "That was a huge thing him being there and talking about his college career at Indiana and his own decision making process on getting there." Both father and son had good things to say about Saturday's camp. "The camp went well," said the elder Watford. "There were a lot of younger kids there. It was intense as they played a number of games and went through a lot of drill sets." "There was good talent there and it was definitely a good experience," said Christian Watford. For much of the camp players were put on teams and placed on Watford's team was Hoosier commit Jordan Hulls, a 5-foot-11 point guard out of nearby Bloomington South. "Jordan is a really good player," said Watford. "In my opinion he is one of the top five point guards in the country. He distributed the ball well and we seemed to do a good job of looking for each other on the court." One development from the elite camp was a commitment last night from sophomore Matt Carlino, a 6-foot-2 combo guard from Scottsdale, Arizona. "Christian played against him the first game and he (Matt) is a kid with great upside," said Ernest Watford. "He's young, has a good looking body and has a real good feel for the game." Despite all the positives, there was no hint of a potential commitment soon from the family as they look to further evaluate Indiana and his four other finalists (Louisville, Alabama, Memphis and Kentucky). "This is what we told Coach Crean -- that we are excited about what Christian could bring to Indiana University," said Ernest Watford. "However we are still going to make our official visits to the other universities and play it out and see what is going to be best for him." Christian Watford did say the Hoosier recruiting effort this weekend was first rate. "The visit and camp just went great," said Watford. "It really could not have gone any better." |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Seems like he liked IU, definitely helped to have some old players for his visit. I'm not going to call it a lock, because nothing is that way with 17 year old kids, but he sure does sound like IU's to lose. |

Does anyone know how his schedule on official visits, or what order he will take them in? If we are last on his list, I like our chances even more. |

Definitely not a lock. Louisville with Pitino, Memphis with Cheating scumbag, and his home college in Alabama. I don't think Kentucky will get him... I'm just not sold on Billy G. Saying "it couldn't have gone any better" .. that's things we like to hear though most certainly. |
