Anyone heard anything else about this???????????????? There is potentially a new twist in the recruitment of Lawrence North forward Stephan Van Treese — the possibility that he will join Indiana next season as a walk-on. It seems the rumor originated with John Decker over at Hoosier Nation and then trickled onto the discussion forums where it’s become a hot topic. Van Treese’s stock has taken a tumble nationally and he’s no longer listed in the Rivals 150 for the 2009 class. While he was impressive at the Kentucky Hoop Fest in July, the major concern seems to be his ability to score in the post against top notch talent. The five schools he was considering at the start of the summer — UCLA, Kansas, Ohio State, Louisville and IU — have all backed off considerably. That leaves Van Treese with one offer from a high major school in South Bend — Notre Dame. Whether or not this walk-on rumor is a real possibility remains to be seen, but the likelihood of a scholarship offer being extended from the coaching staff is basically non-existent. The focus for the 2009 class has shifted primarily to Dominic Cheek, Christian Watford, Roger Franklin and others. The interest from Van Treese in the IU program is still there — his brother is currently a student in Bloomington, his best friend is Bobby Capobianco and he’s been an IU fan for most of his life. Will that translate into a willingness to accept a walk-on spot to play for the program he loves? |

I was hearing about this (same source as you). I think it may be a wise move for SVT if his stock has truely dropped this much. People say he's an IU fan (and so is his family). His older brother attends IU. He's best friends with Capo and is very fimilar playing with him (b-ball wise) and Hulls. He'd definitely get minutes and could possibly earn a schollie if our 2010 prospects don't fall through our the NCAA doesn't take them. |

I wouldn't mind SVT coming to IU as a walk on. His stock has dropped big time, but he could still be a solid player in the future. It's obvious he wants to play at a high level in college. Otherwise, he would be looking at some mid-majors now. Plus, you have to have the grades to play for Notre Dame. He'd be a quality big man that we could use in the future, especially if we have a scholarship open later on. |

And FYI, Franklin dropped IU from his list. He scheduled visits to UCLA, Arizona, OK State, Oklahoma, and MSU |

That is a bummer that Franklin dropped us, but I hope we get Watford and/or Cheek. |

Who cares. I would rather have Christian Watford any day over Franklin.... ;) |

Franklin would've been a fantastic get....I just think we need a little more size with that last commitment. Him parting ways with IU is probably best for both parties at this point. |
