Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Pretty uneven performance, IMO....thought that they looked pretty good in the first half and were pretty flat in the second half.

For those that keep saying that Lewis isn't as good as Randle-El, I'm sorry. He just broke the IU record for touchdown passes and he still has two full years left, and has a career 44/18 TD to INT ratio. Two long TD rushes today and nearly 200 yards rushing as well. I know it was a weak opponent, but we're still looking at a very mobile QB who has only thrown more picks than TDs in 3 of his 25 games.

From what I saw, we looked pretty good. I was hoping for a more dominant performance considering our weak opponent. I didn't catch part of the 3rd and the 4th quarters, but in the first half it looked like there were a lot of balls that our receivers didn't hang onto. We can still beat our cupcake nonconference schedule with some dropped balls, but in conference play they're going to need to take the hit and hold onto the ball if we're going to upset any teams.

Ehhh, it was Western Kentucky. There was good and bad. WKU fumbled while walking into the end zone early in the third quarter, but also, I'm sure IU let up in the second half when they were up 17-0. IU is better than WKU, and pretty much everyone knew that. I don't think we learned anything about IU's football team this week, and we probably won't next week as they play Murray State. The Ball State game will test the defense, and should be a good game. If they win that game, I'd feel confident in a bowl bid this season.

Not the dominating game you would expect, but its early. Lots of football left.

We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

as mediocre as today's performance was, it seemed like IU seemed to score pretty much when they needed to or when they wanted to. to me, it seems like there's a pretty serious problem with lack of motivation. they went through the same emotion-less spells last season too.
Death to Signatures.

I could only listen to Fisch on the radio, but here a my thoughts from the game.

The no huddle offense is FAST. Fisch has virtually no time to comment in between plays and the WKU players were gasping by the second quarter. They burned at least 2 timeouts simply to get a breather.

I'm concerned about the O-line and our running game. I would have liked to see us pound it a bit more and it appears this year is no different then last year. Bad running game means we win and lose with Kellen.

The pass blocking did seem a lot better though and that is probably partly because of the no huddle.

The defense sounded very sharp, especially the LBs. Matt Mayberry is going to be a stud and Will Patterson is already a stud. These guys are fast and if they can shut down option plays and sweeps it gives us a much better chance against running teams.

Keeping in mind that Middleton didn't play I was happy with the pressure on the QB. Kirlew looks to be in for a big season.

Pass defense will need to improve, but this is why you play cupcakes first. QB sounded very inaccurate. With more experience and Finch coming in for Thomas on passing downs I think we will get better but will probably still struggle some against the pass this season.

I'm interested to see how we do against Ball State. I expect a win but Nate Davis was damn near perfect in their first game. Will definitely be a good test for the D.

I learned that Kellen Lewis is a beast against poor competition. Will he be able to get such ridiculous numbers against better competition, or will he pull a Painter every time someone good comes knocking?

Too early to tell I think, but he didn't do much wrong yesterday.

no - Lewis is easily the best BT QB and IU's offensive line is the worst.

Put Lewis behind OSU's line and you have the Heisman winner.

As always, UB is living in his own little fairy land.

Have you even paid the slightest attention to his career? His numbers last year were right upthere with the best QBs in the country and that included Big 10 competition.

I have to agree on this one cam. Your way off base with that comment. Put Lewis with Purdue and he would make Painter look like a wanna be or a has been.
No offense, but the numbers don't lie.............

How many Purdue football games have you watched the past 3 seasons? Our offensive line has been horrendous against anything above a MAC caliber team.

Painter and Lewis are both very good QBs, who do different things. Both fit their teams very well. I think both would struggle if they switched teams, and both would be very good at OSU or LSU or USC, as would most players.

UB's statement was right in line with "If my aunt had nuts, she'd be my uncle."

Yes, Lewis's whopping QB ratings of 71 and 34 against Wisky and Illinois last year were part of why I questioned if he would be able to step up against good teams.

Everyone is bound to have a bad game or two and @Wisky is a place where a lot of guys have bad games.

Against Illinois he went for 290 yards, 2 TDs and 1 int. Not the worst performance ever.

How bout Penn State when he went for 320 yards, 4 TDs and 0 ints.

Heck, over the last 2 years against Purdue he's gone for 530 yards, 5 TDs and 1 int. No bigger game than the bucket game.

He also beat Iowa when they were ranked in 2006 and he's led at least 3 come from behind victories.

Here's something interesting from last year. He ran for over 1000 yards if you take off the sack yardage. Check out these numbers (- sack yardage included).

Lewis - 3779 yards, 37 TDs, 10 ints
Chase Daniels - 4350 yards, 33 TDs, 11 ints

Also keep in mind - Last year was Lewis's first full year as the starter. Now that is scary.

Some more comparisons

Lewis - 3779 yards, 37 TDs, 10 ints
Chase Daniels - 4350 yards, 33 TDs, 11 ints
Matt Ryan - 4500 yards, 31 TDs, 19 ints
Todd Reesing - 3600 yards, 33 TDs, 7 ints
Sam Bradford - 3100 yards, 36 TDs, 8 ints

This is why Sports Illustrated named him as one of the 10 best QBs in the country before last year was even over.
