Hey guys, I'm watching the men's soccer team on the BTN, and was wondering if any of you guys who attend/attended IU ever went to the games. When I was in high school, the state track meet was at IU and the warm-up area was the soccer field, and I always thought it'd be a cool place to watch a game. Do many people attend the games? Whats the capacity? |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

it's a pretty cool place to watch soccer, and an awesome team to watch too. i went to sunday's game vs. akron -- it was definitely not as lively as usual because is was mid-afternoon on a 90+ degree day. any games on friday nights are absolutely insane. i may be wrong, but i think the capacity is somewhere around 7,000 people.. |

Yeah, they are showing the Akron game right now (its late in the game). Thats cool that they get some good crowds, they are one of the best teams in the nation. I've went to a few volleyball games at Purdue, which are pretty fun and exciting. I think its awesome to give the non-revenue sports some support, as they work very hard and usually don't have the support and opportunities of the basketball/football athletes. My month as a non-revenue athlete was probably a much different experience than that of an OSU football player or Duke basketball player. |

Funny story. Upon coming to IU I decided I would walk onto the soccer team. I had played for 14 years. I mean how hard could it be right? So I went to their first practice and was absolutely blown away. I mean you could visibibly see how much better they were than I was. So I turned around and went home all dissapointed because I was sure I could play DI soccer at some crappy school like IU. Only then did I find out that they were the 2-time defending national champions. Needless to say, I felt a bit better after that. Last year I wa sat the UCLA game when they were ranked #1 in the country and it was standing room only. People were lined up all around the fence because there were not seats left. We beat them 1-0 and I'm pretty sure IU gained a few more soccer fans that day. 7000 capacity sounds about right. That's seating though and they will continue to let people in because there is so much room along the grass area. I think the record attendance is over 9000. I'm pretty sure they are among the leaders in soccer attendance every year. But don't quote me on that. Man I wish I could get some BTN here in Mexico :( |

Pretty much on target. The official "seating" capacity is listed at 6,500. |

IU Soccer games are a lot of fun to go to...especially late in the season. I used to be a ball boy at them when I was younger. Does the pizza express truck still drive around the track and throw shirts and pizzas at the crowd? |

I've been to many IU soccer games in my 3+ years here, and I still think that they should add more seating somehow. It wouldn't have to as extensive or expensive as the football stadium, but it would actually be used and help attendance. But yes, the games are very fun to watch if you have any interest in soccer, and they are free for IU students. Not nearly as fun as basketball, but right up there with football games. |

Armstrong Field (do believe that's its name) is supposed to be one of the nicest in the country. Looks great.. I'd love to watch a game. It's amazing how many people DON'T know how good IU is in soccer.. I suppose they deserve more recognition with 7 national titles. But it blows me away that we have players from alllll around the world coming to play there.. even like Africa. Great to see. |

I used to go a lot when I was younger and I've gone to some games since college. Its a blast, and free for students. |

The IU/UCLA game last year set IU's record for attendance at a home soccer game with 7500. I'll be at the same game in Westwood in a couple weeks. Edited by Badger, Sep 2 2008, 07:50 PM.
