| Welcome to Our Hoosier Board! Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions. Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful. Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine! That's good to hear that you have a job lined up. So are you getting a BS in Informatics and a BA in Computer Science? I ask because that's where the $62k average came from. The average BS in Informatics makes $53k with an average of $43k for jobs in Indiana. There's a huge discrepancy in wages depending on where you work. I've gotten offers from companies in California offering over double my salary that I've turned down because of the discrepancy in cost of living along with the benefits of owning my own business, which is hard to put a price on. By the way, my roommate had a cognitive related to Computer Science along with a business certificate from the Kelley School of business in management and a 3.7 GPA. It all came down to him not having experience gained while in college because most companies don't want to train their employees for these positions. I believe it took him over 6 months after graduation to find a job in Indianapolis, and I doubt they're paying more than $50k. It sounds like you're set, but if you have any friends in the school, make sure they get an internship or job related to their field before they graduate, or it will be difficult no matter what those statistics tell you. I'd wager my business that there's some high outliers that are making $500k that skew those numbers. |
