Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

just curious... I'm looking forward to the debates. My hunch is that McCain will "win" the first one.

I voted for one of the options that has nothing, I think the one between Yes and No, but no, it will have absolutely no influence on how I vote.

if the debates influence your vote then you really haven't done any thought/research on your own.

i'm sick of undecided voters.

I'd have to say that if you don't watch the debates in a way that influences your opinion, than you're no better than someone that votes straight Democrat or Republican. It may not be enough to sway someone to vote one way or the other, but to be absolutely decided prior to them is foolish in my opinion. I'll be watching both debates closely to see the rebuttals. It's a very good way to see what's in a candidate's head compared to what's been written for them by their campaign managers.

I agree with Faithful. While we can learn a lot from research and past voting records, there are always "new" and "current" issues as well as hypotheticals that we need answers and explanation for that might not show up in past speeches and voting records.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

straight ticket voters are just as bad. but, those who are swayed in one direction or another based on one single night's events have loose convictions..

we are a politically uneducated society. we are a politically inactive society. one of the biggest indications of that are the poll swings a day after each debate.

Politicians do not come with a set of policies they support and oppose at all times. Those policies change depending on their own set of beliefs daily as well as the audience that's in front of them. I've listened to a lot of speeches, and there's very little to be gained from them that you couldn't read off of their websites, which is scrutinized for months by an entire staff of people. If you vote based on everything to this point, then you might as well elect the politician's campaign staff. When a candidate has to act on their feet to refute their opponent's claims, it's a lot closer to how they'd react in a real diplomacy situation than anything you've seen up to this point.

i disagree. i think observing how each one refutes claims made by their opponent after a week's time is a better indication of how they'd act in office. debates just display the wits of each candidate. i'd HOPE that an elected candidate wouldn't fly by the seat of his pants when making decisions of that magnitude.
