Discuss But first a prediction. The McCain/Palin suporrters will come on and say she knocked it out of the park and that Biden looked like an ass(I'm looking at you Lars). The Obama supporters will come out and say that Palin looked completely unprepared and got owned. |

I was actually surprised how strong Palin came out. She kept up blow for blow for about the first 20/30 minutes of the debate. However, once the talk switched to foreign policy she started to look a bit flustered. Biden capitalized on it well, its obvious he is the more seasoned politician. He is much quicker on his feet and better at calling audibles. Palin seems to be sticking to her given material and not deviating from the course to much. She keeps side stepping questions and focusing on what she wants to talk about. She gets backed into a corner and she dials up the small town talk to get out. Nevertheless, it has be a solid effort on her part and she didn't do anything detrimental to her or McCain's image. However, I must say that game, set and match go to Biden. *BTW: Was anyone else bothered by Palin's wink at the camera early on the debate. Really bothered me for some reason. Palin came out unbelievably fast; she was quick witted, and as you said, matched biden blow-for-blow. That said, everything she said was clearly rehearsed. All of her "small town america" talk is scripted, not genuine. I respect her as a person, and as the governor of Alaska -- but I just don't see her as vice president. |

Boiler, you hit the nail on the head. Palin has done very well I think. Anything unlike the Couric interview is very positive for her and McCain. And when they switched to foreign policy it was obvious Biden has more experience. No gaffes so far, so I'm dissapointed. If that keeps up then consider it a win for the McCain campaign. Their drop in the polls is mostly do to Palin looking like a moron in her interviews. She looks put together now and that may alleviate a lot fo the fears about her. |

Pretty good summary. I've seen her do the wink so many times that it didn't really disturb me. I think this match clearly goes to Biden although Palin managed to not give Tiny Fey too much material. She's pretty good at sounding confident while not saying much of substance, so I was a little shocked that she didn't sound completely flustered very often. |

WOW, Biden choked up a bit when talking about his sons who almost died. I think that will score him MAJOR points. Mainly because he didn't cry. That hit right in the heart valves. |

argh, does it aggravate anybody else that the mccain camp is constantly talking about "reaching across party lines" when in the same speech/sentence they diss "barack obama and the democrats"? |

I'm surprised he didn't explain it at all. Most of the people I work with have no clue the tragedy that Biden went through, and I didn't even know much about it until I watched the Democratic Convention. |

I'm with Dreachon here, Biden will clearly be seen as the winner of this debate. But, Palin being able to talk fairly coherently for an extended period of time without slipping up will pay more dividends to the McCain ticket, than Biden's win will do for the Obama ticket. |

I agree. Overall, this is likely going to give a boast for McCain. |

...look, i've tried to give palin a chance...honestly, i have...but come on...enough is enough...watching her up there with Biden is just a joke...its simply a joke...i reminds me of one of those horribly, unrealistic movies where some middle aged black woman inherits an nba team and after a series of embarrassing missteps eventually succeeds at running it...or the one where some weirdly likeable small town newscaster gets a chance to be president of the United States of America...WAIT!!!...that wasn't a movie...ITS ACTUALLY FUCKING HAPPENING!!!...AAAGGGHHH!!!... ...come on, enough is enough...everything she is saying or doing is clearly rehearsed...its borderline excruciating to watch!!!...REALLY, IT FUCKING IS!!!...everything Biden does seems passionate and real and effortless...you can obviously tell he's been doing it his whole life...AND DON'T SAY THAT'S A NEGATIVE...TO FUCKING BE VICE PRESIDENT OR PRESIDENT IT HAS TO BE EFFORTLESS!!!...the job these individuals are applying for is not one where you get to train for days on end for what is to come...it has to be natural and ready...SHE IS NOT!!!...she is clearly clueless...do we want another situation where our leader is sitting in a chair watching chaos happen right outside the window all the while thinking to themselves 'hmmm, this situation wasn't in today's prep...what do i do?'... ...this (picking palin as his running mate) is the first decision that we've seen mccain make in a presidential role...if this is any indication of his future decisions then PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PEOPLE TAKE A GOOD HARD LOOK AND REALIZE THAT HE TOO MUST BE A FUCKING IDIOT!!!... |

I have had quite enough of Palin's "aww shucks" style of speech. She does not look presidential, and yes...the wink is just wrong. What is she planning on doing if, god forbid, she does become president... Wink at foreign leaders and sit in their laps for a quick wiggle and a squeeze to get her way? The woman needs to grow up, she is no longer a teenage beauty queen, she needs to act like the adult woman she is. |

I agree with others that I'm pretty much over her "small town speech". Definitely got on my nerves tonight. Agree with eelbor that she would have done better had she acted more presidential. |
