Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,

Another hilarious performane from Fey..I must admit. I do have a question for you guys though. Do you think that SNL intentionally makes Palin look worse than her opponents in these skits or do you think that it ends up that way because Fey as an actress is so much funnier than everyone else?

It seems like they could have made fun of Biden's facial expressions and Grinch grin a little more, and the fact that he was basically anti-Obama less than a year ago. I'm not saying they have an obligation to be fair, because they only have an obligation to be funny and create ratings, but I am curious to see what you guys think. Do they have an agenda at all?

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

HMMMM MSNBC is in the tamk for Obama and SNL is on NBC you decide AaronK. I agree Tina is a talent but they (SNL) are in the bag for Obama in the General Election. Tina Fey was so for Hillary in the primary remember Bitch is the new black line. SNL is doing a special on the election this Thursday night. Just in case McCain has a good debate Tuesday.

By that logic the animation block on the Fox network should be conservative in their lean, since Fox News is a product of Fox. However, most of Fox's shows are rather raunchy and if a biased would have to be placed on them, I'd say it was to the left.

I wouldn't necessarily say the SNL is in the bag for Obama simply because the show is on NBC. If anything they are more Pro-Obama because of the make-up of the cast. Many comedians and writers tend to lean towards the left, so they are Pro-Obama for the same reason that Fox's television shows show a left bias. It is the people behind the program and not always the network imo.

Much of the time it is the Network itself, MSNBC will always be the liberal station, Fox News will always be conservative, and CNN will try as hard as they can to be in the middle. However, sometimes there is more to motivations that just the network name itself.

...first off, Fey absolutely despises palin and she has not hidden that fact at all...she is the former head writer of the show and i'm willing to bet that she writes damn near close to 100% of that bit...so there is an obvious bias there...

...as much as everyone tries to say that nbc is pro obama and that may be true...but i don't think it has much to do with this at all...just look back at the past bits that they've done during the elections...they were especially tough on Gore...i remember the skit they did after he and bush's first debate and they had Gore constantly sighing and talking over bush...

...i truly think that they target what their audience will think is the funniest and relate to the most...and right now it is obviously palin...simple as that...

the best line from "Palin":
"I believe that marriage should be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers"

they poked fun at both Biden and Palin... hey, if people are swayed by a skit on SNL, they should not be allowed to vote, IMO!

I think it's partly that the cast is more in favor of Obama and it's partly that Palin is where the ratings are. Tina Fey's first Palin impression was so good that people are tuning in to see her next one. So the subsequent skits have to make Palin look worse and worse in order to keep being funny and keep people tuning in to see Fey portray Palin.

Journalists and actors/comedians are overwhelmingly liberal. I want to see that new movie about Michael Moore.

How sad is it that the opinions of actors/comedians may have an actual effect on where the population votes?
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

The jury is out on how much advertising and biased media affects people's voting habits. Some studies show that the media has very little effect and that people will tend to stick to their particular party lines when push comes to shove. Others show that the media plays a sizable role in the shaping of independent voters.

My guess is, is that the truth falls somewhere in the middle.

Most of the people I run across just throw out the media created talking points to refute/promote who they want. "Third Bush Term", "Socialist Country", etc etc.

It makes my head want to explode that a lot of people don't actually research the candidates and then are so passionately supportive of one candidate or the other. I love my country, but there sure are a lot of idiots running around.

i'm surprised they didn't show Biden tearing up. Maybe that would have been too insensitive. Biden's just not funny, while, as much as I like her, Palin has a lot more to make fun of. Gore vs Bush had so much material. I still remember Gore going on about the woman who picks up cans to pay for her prescription drugs and snl poking fun at it.

Al Gore: Jim, I'd like to interrupt here and answer that question as if it were my turn to speak. Jim, let me tell about a friend of mine. [ holds up a picture of an elderly woman ] Her name is Etta Munsen. She's 94, she's a widow living on Social Security in Sparta, Tennessee. Etta was born with only one kidney. She also suffers from poilo, spinal menengitis, lung, liver, and pancreatic cancer, an enlarged heart, diabetes, and a rare form of styctic acne. Now, several recent strokes, along with an unfortunate shark attack, have left her paralyzed and missing her right leg under the knee. Just last week she woke from a coma to find that, due to a hospital mix-up, her left arm had been amputated, infected with syphillis, and then reattached.

Jim Lehrer: Mr. Vice-President, we are short of time..

Al Gore: As you can imagine, Jim.. Etta's prescription drug bills are staggering. They run to nearly $113 million a day! And she tells me that some weeks she has to choose between eating and treating her Lyme Disease. Now, under my plan, Etta's prescription drugs would be covered. Under my opponent's plan, her house would be burned to the ground. And that is wrong. That is just wrong!
