Interesting stuff. What say you McCain supporters? This is one topic the McCain campaign has hit hard on. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/07/fact-check-did-obama-get-second-most-money-from-freddie-and-fannie/#more-23368 |

I think it was a mistake to point out campaign contributions. Thats a tired argument that really has no rooting in logic. Its used by people on both sides of the aisle and basically goes "He receives contributions from such and such, so of course he's going to support them." Its pretty bogus. The more important issue for McCain to point out was Democrats support for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and Democrats' refusal to regulate Frannie Mae and Freddie Mac that set us up for the current crises. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were pulling some of the same crap that Enron and WorldComm were pulling inflating their stocks, and they took on way more risk than they ever should have. Republicans tried to get regulation to reign them in and it was Democrats who stopped it. Its an important story and one that should be told. The who gave campaign contributions is neither here nor there. The truth is that companies can't give money as your article says. And who cares what individuals give? |

I would say I agree, but I've hear several times on this board and other places about Obama being the #2 recipient of Fannie and Freddie money. It's obvious that there people are trying to use that against him and McCain tried to use it again tonight. |

I agree, the campaign contributions are a non-issue compared to the systematic Democratic attempts to resist reigning in Freddy and Fannie. |
