Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

marriage is not a right. Gay marriage is not about a right it is IMO gays wanting to be fully accepted. Then they put on a ferry costume and sprinkle picky dust everywhere. I do care if someone is gay. I just think marriage is between a man amd a women. i see no need for gay marriage. The visiting in a hospital crap is bs. I have visited people in the hospital i was not related to. I can see them limiting number of visitors or amount of time based on the patients condition but no due to sexual orientation. NLA we can disagree. This is a philsophical issue not a right or wrong answer. I am just saying if it couldn't pass in Cali there is not alot of support for it.
That's one of the most ignorant statements I've heard from you BG. I find it despicable that Americans would want to hurt other Americans' happiness just to protect a word. One freaking word. That's all marriage is. And yes, I'm sure a lot of it has to do with acceptance, but it's just ridiculous that we can't afford them that. Most of them have had to go through more torture from people than you could even imagine, and it's just pathetic that we can't accept them. They're not harming anyone no matter how much people want to twist it into the morale fabric of our society, it's not. It's just two people who care for each other. That's it.
Faithful,

I was joking with the ferry costume thing.

If you find what I said ignorant so be it. I agree and I personally accept people whom I can trust. I know alot of people married and single I do not trust. I agree if a religion wnats to sponsor gay marriage they should. But a state should have the right to allow the people to decide if that state wants it. I am a big states right guy. If it passed in Cali I would have accepted it.

for gays, being married isn't just about being accepted, it's about having the same basic civil rights as straight married couples. as you may well be aware of, straight couples are allowed to visit eachother in the hospital, as well as make important medical decisions for their partner should they become unable to make said decisions. along with that, straight people are also allowed to share health insurance from one employer. because gay couples cannot get married in many places, they are thusly denied these rights/liberties.

many politicians and activists who have been against gay marriage in the past have seen the salience of this argument and offered a counter solution -- civil unions. civil unions would essentially grant gay couples all the civil rights and liberties that straight couples were offered, with the exception that it would not challenge the institution of marriage. many gay rights activists see a problem with this in that it is inherently unequal. just as ruled in brown vs. board of education, black schools and white schools are inherently unequal. civil union will never have the same meaning as marriage.

it comes down the the fact that marriage has evolved over time. at one time, marriages were arranged and it was impossible to marry anyone other than either your family or governmentally arranged partner. it later evolved into personal choice, and now it is on the verge of evolving into the gender of one's choice. marriage used to only be allowed as a sacrament in churches, it later became and obligation of the state, and has even gone so far as to allow captains of a ship to grant marriages. if a captain of a ship can grant a marriage, why can't a gay couple be married?

Like many political issues it is just a matter of opinion. They could get all the benies you suggested except the insurance with a power of attorney.

Insurance should be a employer option because insurance passed to a dependent is not a right. A company is not required to insure anyone or the entire family.

That issue really only comes in under municipal jobs. Since that is the taxpayers money it should be voted on.

PS thanks again for the sig

what i listed was just a miniscule amount of the civil rights denied to gay couples. the medical rights one, to me, is the biggest issue. the point is there are so many definitions of marriage, and it's all dependent on who you are and what you believe in. for instance, catholics believe that they should be married in the church by their priest. some people prefer getting married by a captain of a ship, others prefer marriage by governmentally appointed people, and finally some people prefer to elope. there are so many definitions, depending on what your religious beliefs are amongst other things, so has the traditional definition of marriage really been preserved over the years? no. extending it to gay couples wouldn't challenge the institution any more than some of the other things that i listed.

Californian's voted that it is necessary to change the CONSTITUION.

Who is in favor of changing the constitution to discriminate against anyone?

I say allow gay people to marry...why should all of us straight guys be the only ones suffering?

Make them help pick out wedding invitations while they try to pretend they give a fuck. Make them have a mother-in-law who tells their partner that the nice boy who lived next door is a doctor and 'why couldn't they have went out them?' Make them live in their living room void of anything that they actually wanted to BE IN THERE WHILE THE CAT THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT CRAPS IN THE CEREAL THAT THEY DIDN'T PICK OUT BUT THEIR PARTNER FELT THAT THEY WERE GETTING FAT AND THEY NEEDED THE FIBER AND TOLD THEM THAT THEY NEEDED TO PICK THEIR UNDERWEAR OFF OF THE FLOOR AND WHILE THEY WERE OUT COULD THEY PLEASE PICK UP THE DRY CLEANING AND WHY DON'T THEY BRING THEM FLOWERS ANYMORE OR TAKE THEM OUT DANCING AND WHILE YOU TRY TO EXPLAIN THAT YOU REALLY DIDN'T LIKE DANCING BUT WANTED TO BE WITH THEM THEY RUN CRYING SAYING YOU DON'T LOVE ME ANYMORE...

Ooops, sorry. Got too personal.

Why should the government marry people anyway?

If people are so concerned about "marriage", change it to a civil union for both straight and gay couples. Let the churches handle marriages.

Thats hilarious. I told my wife if I die that I want her to get married as soon as possible. When she asked why I told her I didn't want her to be happy.
