"Nobody in this room has been in a situation like Tom Crean is in right now, nobody," Purdue coach Matt Painter said. "He didn't have a team in the spring, and now he's got a team that's going to go out and be competitive in the Big Ten. I promise you, his teams will compete and play hard, and he's been able to do a good job recruiting. I think he's a very good coach. He's already shown he's the right guy for the job. Anybody who understands the game and has a basketball IQ understands that you have to be patient with this situation." Crean Driven to Help Fix IU- (Nov. 4) |

Those comments should surprise nobody. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Coach Porkchop realizes Crean will be clownstomping him in future years so he's trying to bank some kiss-ass currency now. :fuckyou: |

No doubt they are refreshing to hear. I think Painter had a little taste of what Crean is going through (not exactly the same, but similar) because Painter had a pretty bare cupboard himself. He respects IU and I'm sure he respects Crean. Plus, Painter knows a strong IU is good for the Big 10. Here's to a fun couple of decades with these guys as our coaches  |

I know I give Purdue hell, only because my neice and nephew are Purdue fans, but I do respect Painter and the job he has done at Purdue. Those are great words. Thanks Badger for posting it and the article. |

Matt's smart enough not to give IU any bulletin board material, unlike the unnamed coach at a large state university to the west of Indiana. |

Matt is just smart in general. He knows the struggle. Although the situations are different, as Izzo pointed out, it may be a good thing that Crean got a clean house. Then he can bring in his own guys and do his own thing. Painter was strapped with some under talented players that he had no way to get rid of. This isn't his first quote like this. The quote in my sig about NW may be my favorite quote from him ever. And the way we played in our exhibition game, where we treated a D2 school just like any other. Yeah, we won by a lot, but us playing hard and just going balls to the wall, shows we respected them and that will probably end up being a huge positive for a school like Florida Southern. |

of course Porkchop would say nice things about IU - he worships the school. He is an ADMITTED bigger fan of IU than turdue and wishes crean would hire him. |
