| Welcome to Our Hoosier Board! Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions. Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful. Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine! Saw this pop up on Rivals. Here's the transcript. I italicized the topics and bolded the answers. Enjoy. On the exhibition scheduling--Friday versus Anderson and next Tuesday versus Bemidji State. I am glad that we planned it this way as we wanted to get as close to a regular season format as we could. With a Friday-Tuesday it is very similar to what we will have at the beginning with Saturday-Tuesday then turn right back around for Maui. More walkon tryouts At 9:30 we had six guys trying out this morning. At one end was six guys trying out and at the other end was our individual workouts. I am trying to split time between both, one coach in charge of that, one coach in charge of this, but that is where we are at. If we don't smile and enjoy it a little bit it is going to be a very disheartening experience and I don't want it to be that way. I want it to be exciting, I want it to be fun. I don't know if the words basketball games and fun will be used together a lot any longer, but we'll see. Later on same walkon subject We probably have enough guards. We are looking at the swing forward route. I would give you a name if I had settled on one. I just haven't and we may not. We are going to do some more (tryout) this afternoon after practice. Looking ahead to Friday's opponents: It is a respected program in Anderson. They are going to come in and switch defenses. They'll switch inside their man to man. Tim Buckley is doing that scout and we know they will do some things that will really be a challenge for us. Anybody is going to be a challenge for us right now. Early concerns about team: One thing we are not grasping is how much we want to run, miss or makes. We are very sporadic with our running. Most teams that talk about running....it is not the coaches that pull it off, it is the players that don't run hard all the time. We have not understood yet how important that is. I am concerned about getting out after makes as well as misses and really getting our break going. That is something that is going to be built over a period of time. I am not sure how much switching of defenses we will do. We will do some because I think that is how we are going to have to play this year. I am looking (forward) here now when the lights are a little brighter that we take the right shots, that we make the next pass and not try to force things that are not there, that we play hard and competitive. We are going to scrimmage this afternoon. It is going to be private but we are going to use Big Ten referees. Starters for Friday: I have not even decided on a starting lineup. That is something that always remains to be seen going into a season. And during the season, will it change? I would bet it will. The one thing we have to really guard against is and I think this is why we have to be open about walkons is that you have to create competition in practice. You have to have competition in your practices because players mentally get it figured out that, 'well I can coast through this, I can coast through that, I am still going to be okay.' That is exactly the culture we do not want to have here. Next year, not going to be any issue when we have a full scholarship gambit and have these young guys coming in with the guys that are veterans, the practices are going to be fierce. So (now) we have to try to make them combative, make them fierce and build some competition. We will be at a position where somebody will not understand you have to bring it at a high level every day and every game and that is when we will substitue and that is when the lineup will change. That is the only way for them to learn the stakes of this. Are you happy to have that Maui trip this year? You can never say no to Maui. It could be the only time some of these guys ever get there in their life. We are spoiled, my family and coaching staff becausde we were there last year. It is fantastic competition. There is a huge downside to it but we are not going to look at it that way. We are going to look at it as a chance to go in there and play a top 5-10 team right off the bat. There are going to be great basketball teams in that thing every day that you are going to face and let's see what we take from it. We are going to go in there and compete. I say that without knowing how it will turn out but we will learn from it. I know walking into the game we are going to have our guys excited to play. Are we getting close to Kyle Taber's return? yes, the doctors are evaluating him very closely. There is no contact or anything like that but I think we are right on schedule which means he could potentially play some time next week. That would be very hopeful. But I don't anticipate it at all on Friday unless something were to really change. Is Malik Story back healthy? Yeah, he was back practicing on Saturday morning. He just never had an ankle injury before. He could have come back out there that night if it as a real game. There was not much sympathy, he was out there the next day. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel
