Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,

Hey man, do you have a membership to rivals? I think I remember seeing somewhere that you did. Anyways, if you do could you post the story about Matt Roth that is on Peegs. I am not a member, and I would like to read it. Thanks man.

Not much has been written this fall about 6-foot-2 freshman Matt Roth from Washington, Illinois and that might be a mistake. The two guard has had his shooting eye on during both recent team scrimmages, knocking down 3-4 from beyond the arc last Friday and 6-8 from that distance in the Cream vs. Crimson scrimmage on October 24th.

After that earlier scrimmage Hoosier coach Tom Crean had commented that Roth had not been shooting near that well in practice but yesterday said there was a reason behind that.

"I think the (shoulder) injury plays some part in that," said Crean. "I think that he broke out in that Cream and Crimson game. That was a great boost for his confidence because his (recent) practices have been pretty good."

Roth hurt his shoulder in September when he ran around a ball screen and banged into big 7-foot, 255-pound center Tijan Jobe. It kept him out of full contact play for about a couple weeks and then there was an adjustment period when he did return. He told us about that last month.

"It did (affect his shot) early on when I was trying to go through the recovery process," Roth said. "Now I'm starting to get back in a rhythm with my shooting."

With his 9-12 shooting from beyond the arc in the two scrimmages, Roth has shown that the longer three point distance is not going to be a problem.

"I don't think Matt Roth has looked down at that line once," said Crean. "I don't think Devan Dumes looks down at it too much either."

"I've taken a lot of my shots from well beyond the line," he said. "It's a little bit different when you get in right on top of that line. At the same time, it's just another adjustment. They always talk about that adjustment from high school to college. That's just one of the adjustments you have to make from high school to college."

The coach knows the frosh will have to round out his game beyond the marksmanship.

"He has to get quicker with the ball. He has to get better defensively. All those things you would have anticipated but we have to find a way to get him open. That is why our penetration game is crucial because if you don't leave him it should allow a driving lane to the basket. Then if you do leave him----you feel good when he takes the shot."

With his great form, Roth just needs to be pointed correctly to knock the long one down.

"Matt can make anyone look good who is passing the ball when he gets his shoulders lined up," says Crean. "That is what it is for him, getting those shoulders lined up. He has a good step in. He just has to have that non-shooting shoulder lined up to the basket and hold that follow through."
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Haha. You know I always say that as joke right? I also believe it is a crazy comparison.

Hahaha, I know. He will be a good player though. From what I've read, the kid can shoot the heck out of the ball. If there are some creators on the team, he'll score some points.

I think he'll be closer to like Kyle Hornsby.

I would take a Kyle Hornsby, but if we're talking the '02 team what we really need is a Dane Fife. Roth isn' that guy yet (and probably never will be). I wonder if ANYONE on this roster has the talent to be that kind of lock-down defender.

Fife = Chris Kramer

I hated Fife (at the time, appreciate him now) and I'm sure most IU fans can't stand Kramer. But those two are about as close to a comparison as I can find.

I was thinking the other day, and this year's Purdue team has quite a few similarities to that '02 IU team. Not straight up players, but overall team makeup.

fife was a 100000 times better shooter and offensive threat than pussy boy kramer will ever be.

I'm going to dive in with a comment on Fife. He was probably my favorite player on that team and one of my favorite IU players ever. How can you not love him? And yes Cam I don't like Kramer, but the kid plays fucking hard. No doubt about that.

Boy, that Dane Fife was an offensive juggernaut those first 3 seasons!!!

first 2 years were under Knight when he wasn't allowed to shoot.

You let me know when Kramer shoots 47% on 3's for a season and I will eat my words. bottom line, Kramer is offensively offensive and not worth guarding.

what's even more hilarious is that both turdue coach and 'star' defensive player wish they were at IU. ROFLMAO
