Did anyone hear Don Fischer say that the new walk-on, Kip Schultz (I think I spelled it right), has to use a basketball scholarship. That sucks. Why do you pick up a walk-on that has to use up a basketball scholarship? :banghead: |

Well, its there to use this year as IU didn't use all of the ones they have. And I highly doubt he'll be with the team on scholarship next year. It'd be nearly impossible for him to stick around considering the amount of committed players already. Any reason as to why he has to take up a scholarship this year? |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

I don't see why he would have to use a basketball scholarship. He is on scholarship for the baseball team I believe. Are you sure you didn't mishear Fischer? |

Just read that basketball and football override other sports in regards to scholarships. So if you play football and run track, its a football scholarship. It stops schools from hiding players in those two sports in lower revenue sports. |

DC, that is exactly what Fischer said. Basketball and Football take precedence over other scholarships. So if you go to school on a baseball scholarship and walk-on the basketball team, then he has to use a basketball scholarship. What does this do for next years team? Crean wouldn't kick him off the team just to use his scholarship, that wouldn't be ethical or cool. I don't know, sounds kind of confusing to me. :puke: |

No way he is invited back next season. I'm not really sure what that does to who signs tomorrow with the early signing period beginning. If this guy is considered a basketball scholarship player, then wouldn't that take away a spot and limit IU from signing one of its players since its already using the one spot oversign limit? Wouldn't that put IU oversigned by two which is against the rules? Odd stuff going on in Bloomington, I'm sure it all works out. I'm not quite sure how, but it will somehow. All there is to do is sit back and trust that Crean knows what he is doing. |

I'm sure this new walkon, Kip Schutz is well aware of the situation and knows full-well that this will be his only season with the basketball team. And I'm sure he'll live it up in the meantime. Either way, we will have this scholarship back for next year. If you can bring in another body to help in practice, then why not. |
