Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

"Whats up, Knight?" It was the statement that started it all. The statement that began a series of events that erupted into a tale of conspiracy, a tale of tragedy, and a tale of treachery so deep that one of college basketball's most storied programs was destroyed. Cut into tiny crimson and cream ribbons by its own fans and athletic department.

After A.D. Miles Brand sent his student agent, Kent Harvey, and his legion of followers to provoke Knight into breaching his "zero-tolerance" policy, the basketball program immediately fell apart in a scheme that was crafted to remove Knight since "he never wins anything", was "washed up", and was "an embarrassment to the school". Thus, the Mike Davis era had begun in an effort to "change IU's tradition". Losses piled up, and Indiana highschool superstars fled the state, terrified at the thought of having to play for Davis, or simply because they werent welcomed at the school. Alumni and what loyal student fans there were had enough, and Davis was replaced.

But the plot to destroy Indiana basketball was only beginning.

In its new coaching search, IU did the unthinkable: instead of hiring either a young, up and coming coach or a seasoned veteran with strong ties to the school or the Midwestern region, the corrupted athletic department hired away Kelvin Sampson, fresh off his first major NCAA violations charges. Alumni, former players, and trustees were dismayed. Players like Kent Benson that challenged the hire were ridiculed by fans. Once again, IU's coaching situation was in question.

Younger fans however instantly grew to love Sampson. Fired up by the thought of playing Division 2 schools just to compile a 20 win record was appealing, and Sampson's sneaky and downright illegal recruiting methods thrilled them. "Is Eric Gordon and a Final Four worth cheating for? Of course it is!!" exclaimed a student interviewed by a reporter from the Indianapolis Star on the hallowed grounds of Nick's, a longtime event-viewing establishment. Except Eric Gordon wasnt worth it, and there was no Final Four. Not even a Sweet 16. "I hope he keeps doing it, but just doesnt get caught," exclaimed another. Things continued to take a turn for the worse. Season ticket prices were doubled to keep elder Bob Knight loyalists out of Assembly Hall. "They doubled my ticket prices so that I couldnt attend games anymore. What did I do to deserve this?" an anonymous 65 year old Alum exclaimed, with a tear running down her weathered face. What Alumni did appear at games were openly mocked by the corrupted fan base for not supporting the cheating.

Finally, after new allegations of misconduct were brought down upon Sampson, the charade was up. The school's perfect reputation for playing by the rules was ruined. The team GPA sunk to unfathomable, "Animal House" type lows. "Zero point Zero!!!". Alumni, boosters, loyal students, and former players had had enough. Sampson was forced into resignation, paid off by the very Alumni that were ridiculed and persecuted by the corrupted fan base. Interim coach Dan Dakich however was mutinied against briefly, led by senior DJ White, and the team fizzled out in the first round of the NCAA's.

It was time for a new coaching search. Indiana Nation was on the edge of its chair, some hoping for a new traitor, others hoping for a change. The latter won out as a "Blue Ribbon Council" of Alumni brilliantly crafted a coaching search that brought them Marquette golden boy Tom Crean. A new beginning was on at IU.

Since Crean's hire, he has all but rode in on a white horse. He has genuinely and humbly embraced IU's previous traditions, and attempted to unite a crumpled fan base. He has put together public viewing sessions of game film to break down and teach the game to younger fans that have a desire to learn the game. With time, Crean can be expected to once again have Assembly Hall filled up with a rowdy, knowledgable, passionate fan base dedicated to making the Crimson n Cream rise once again. He has already inked a top 5 recruiting class with his hands tied, and has made it clear that IU is in rebuilding mode, and that it will require time and patience for it to be prominent again.

Crean's coaching style should excite IU fans. An up-tempo, guard-smart lineup with athletic big men can be expected, and a ball-hawking defense that creates turnovers and moves swiftly to capitalize on them will be on display as well. As Crean is rebuilding, look for his teams to play smart and take lots of 3's, as they lack the physical post presence to be productive down low. Crean would be wise to implement a Jay Wright-style four guard lineup that is dedicated to hustle, forcing turnovers and converting them, and setting up smart jump shots, basket cuts, and 3 point shots.

Though Crean is indeed an impressive coach, compiling a streak of several 20-win seasons in the brutal Big East, fan expectations should be kept to a minimum this season as he simply does not have the player experience or talent to compete in the rugged Big 10 conference. If Crean even wins 10 games or does not finish last in the conference, he could be considered for Coach of the Year or BTCOY.

Prediction thread:
9-19 overall (excluding exhibition games)
5-13 in the Big 10, last place

spot on, FE, as usual.

if everyone hasn't realized that FE has been correct with almost every single prediction he's made about this team over the last 5 years then i'm not sure what to say. He may post in a semi-abrasive manner but believe me, FE knows his shit. He calls it nearly every single time.

it kills me to hear any IU fan shun away a fellow hoosier who brings up knight. that's absolutely ridiculous and criminal. why wouldn't every hoosier be pissed about the knight situation? we've seen nothing but shit since then (and please, don't even mention the '02 run like it was some sort of Davis love-child). Our team has been shit. our players have been shit. our coaches have been shit. our play-style has been shit. with the exception of one, DJ White, it's been painful to watch the games over the last 6 seasons.

I think now is the absolute most important time to bring up the glory days of IU. we have a lot of Sampsonites and Davis Apologists to convert. Those two dickheads should be banned from Bloomington.

Glory, glory Indiana! Here's to the future!

It doesn't really seem like a 'season preview' when there's only like one sentence about the current season. It seems the vast majority of the thread was about the past or about future IU teams. I was expecting more substance about the current season.....not the same thing we've been reading for years.

sorry fella, but I live for the present and the future, not the past. I was pissed for the first couple years of the knight firing, but god dam, that life. Get the fuck over it. I am very grateful for what Bob Knight did for this program, but there is a new regime in town that I an excited about. I am looking toward the future not the day that some dipshit said "Hi Knight".

this season has very little to do with this season...

br
Huh? I'll assume you mean that this season will be a forshadowing of of the success that's to come in the future. I think all IU fans think the program will be successful in future years. However, I thought the post was supposed to be about this season. Who will be our go to guy in clutch situations, What style will we play non-conference vs. when we get into B10 play, How will the team grow from the beginning to the end of the season, Who will end up being our biggest contributors, Will Bob Knight embrace IU Basketball with TC as coach, etc.

I didn't see anything of the sort. The title of the tread does say, 'Official IU Season Preview', not The past and future of the IU Basketball Program.

...i'm still going with 15 wins...

...this team seems to have too much fight to go down...they will win some games that they're not supposed to and be a classic group of overachievers...

...they remind me of my Tennessee Titans...a group of guys who care more about winning games and the guy next to them than they do about their own stats...led by coaches who do a more than excellent job of keeping this belief alive...

...i don't know about you guys but no matter what happens i can guarantee that this will be an IU team that we will remember forever and will become one of our favorite teams of all time...

what I never understood is the way critics and pundits criticize this team. sure they're a bunch of freshmen, many of them three-star recruits (minus williams), but it's not like we pulled them out of a mental ward and asked them to play basketball. criticism is the best form of motivation for a team, so I hope the critics keep coming.

also, i was extremely impressed with the way our team handled themselves tonight. a few NSU players (#5, #1) tried to rile our players up on several occasions, but our players refused to stoop to their levels. you can tell this is a well coached and well disciplined team.
