Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Not a sport but my hobby is astronomy. I came across these photos on a really good web site called Spaceweather.com . It is a NASA site that you can subscribe to for free. They will e-mail you whenever any thing cool is about to happen in the night sky. The latest is the convergence of Jupiter and Venus the rest of the month. One photo shows the two planets in the Southwestern sky shortly after sundown. The other is of the ISS as it passed the full moon recently. OK, I admit it, I'm a geek but it is still pretty cool. By the way, the ISS picture was taken with the same telescope I have, a 10" Meade LX200. I am just starting to get into astro photography and when I figure out how to get some descent pictures, I will post a few.

Great pics. Astronomy is also a big hobby of mine. I've always been fascinated by it.

Good luck with the photos. Photographing stars can be a very difficult/expensive thing to do. What kind of camera do you plan to use?

Hi Badger,

I have a Meade Deep Sky Imager Pro, CCD camera. It hooks directly from the telescope to a lap top that I can then use to control the telescope and the pictures are then digitally downloaded to the computer. Pretty slick operation. It is a little complicated to get set up and I have been too busy to really get to know it. I think this week should be pretty good as it will be pretty clear and the moon is waning. I hope to get out a couple of nights and do some experimenting with it. You can take timed exposures up to 30 minutes so it is capable of getting some really great shots. My problem here is light pollution so I will just have to see what develops. (Pun intended) If you have not seen the spaceweather.com site you should check it out. Also for anyone else interested, the shuttle docked with the ISS will be making quite a few visible passes this week. Check out the site heavens-above.com and click on the ISS. It you enter your city or zip code, it will give you a detailed sky map of where to look as well as a time that is usually to the second. It is really impressive to see just before the shuttle docks or just after it undocks. Check it out!
