Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Food for thought.

Luke AFB, AZ

Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its
planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were.

A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the back.

Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her day at the mall.

When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it must have stung quite a bit.

The complaint:

"Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base:
Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the
Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyn's early bird special?
Any response would be appreciated."

The response:

Regarding "A wake-up call from Luke's jets" On June 15:

At precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four- ship fly by of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques. Capt Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.

At 9 a. m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn t he loss of a husband, son and friend.

Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the
playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured.

A four-ship fly by is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense of freedom.

We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, 'Whom do we thank for the morning air show? The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.

Only 2 defining forces have ever offered to die for you.....Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Lt. Col. Grant L. Rosensteel, Jr. , USAF

Wow. That response is pretty powerful stuff. God Speed to the family and thanks again to all those who serve to protect our freedom!

Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Not that I would have guessed they were doing the fly by for the funeral, but I wouldn't have thought they were doing it just for fun either. G-d forbid they unsettle her shopping experience for the 10 seconds it takes for the noise to die down.

Clearly this is a valid reason to be flying low, however this summer when SWAT team helicopter drills were being performed at a field right by my house in Indianapolis at 2 in the morning i probably would have had the same response..

Flyer,

I think a similiar situation happened in San Antonio. If I remember correctly fly patterns get approved and fly ops over residential areas have operational windows. The sad truth is the average American is very detached from what goes on in defense of the nation

3.1m living WW II vets
1.7m Living Vietnam Vets
>1.3m living GWOT vets

Those are combat veterans numbers not era numbers

Prior to like 1964 America pretty much had mandatory service but Vietnam pretty much took care of that.

the thing was there was no reason for why they couldn't have done the drill during the afternoon, or for that matter during the early night hours. they were called out on it and the director of the drills admitted the mistake and they later changed the time.

I would think they could have done the training somewhere else also. I understand how loud that shit can be and if they where training they need to use civil awareness but they also need to train at night. Doing simple tactical stuff becomes harder at night. I am different I am not capable of going to sleep before 2 for some fucked up reason
