“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

The guy picked last in gym class

Well, I went to the game and just got back. Observations: 1. Bill Lynch must have leprosy. No one on the sideline wanted to be anywhere near him. He simply is the least inspiring man ever. 2. Yeah, the last touchdown drive was rubbing it in in terms of playcalling. If our guys had any heart at all, they should have at least at that point figured out how to defend a freakin' pass....they got nearly 60 shots at figuring how to bat a ball down. Purdue didn't punt all day....so I'm not upset at their offense still running plays. They shouldn't need to show any respect to a defense that didn't play hard or smart enough to deserve respect. Besides, maybe he wanted to give Painter his last touchdown pass...ever. 3. I was impressed that Purdue filled the stadium and for the most part I was surprised that neither side's fans really got out of line. Sure, there was some trash talking, but all pretty much good natured. Saw an IU fan with a shirt that said 'Purdue is gay' on one side and 'West Lafayette smells like shit' on the back and he had to endure some crap talk from Purdue fans (but you should if you wear that shirt in hostile territory), but by the middle of the game he and the Purdue fans around him were just drinking and laughing it up and at the end the game they all took their picture together. Don't like to admit it, but overall (other than the crummy parking), the venue and atmosphere was a good one. Just wished the game had been interesting, but that sure as hell wasn't Purdue's fault. 4. Hearing 50,000 Purdue fans all shouting "Boiler up!" makes the chant sound ever gayier that I once thought it was. |

One last observation: while we try to get our basketball team back to old school IU basketball, it looks like our football has outdone itself and returned to old school IU football......Lee Corso style. |

Some friends came over and I was watching the replay for the first time. It was 48-3, and one guy kept asking why Purdue was still throwing the ball. Ok, maybe it wasn't the classiest moment in sports history. :D |

Just because IU can only come up with chanting their player's name and then clapping doesn't mean you have to make fun of Boiler Up! :D |

I was at the game, and I felt like Tiller kept throwing because he wanted to put up 60 points. I don't remember any of his Purdue teams ever breaking 60, I think 56 was his highest. He had Painter in until the final drive...but for what it's worth, he did throw to several third string receivers in the late drives. Probably not exactly a classy way to end it, but Lynch didn't help things either. Lynch called two timeouts to stop the clock in the final seconds of the first half. At the time, IU was near midfield and down 41-3. Edited by BoilerVision, Nov 23 2008, 10:06 PM.

I believe they said his highest game prior was 62 points. I don't personally care one way or the other, but I don't know any coach that gives up prior to half time no matter the score... |

I think what's being lost in all this is, Purdue didn't have to punt through almost 4 quarters..........so at the end, why do the first punt? The student section was screaming "GO" everytime. It was his last game, they were up big, and he finally listened to the student section. |

Meh, I didn't watch the game, but heard that we were going for it late in the fourth on 4th and goal from the 5 or something like that. I'm against running of the score, but oh well, it is what it is. Tiller is gone so he doesn't have to worry about any type of "payback" even though I doubt it'll matter a whole lot. |

Actually, the more I think about it the more it seemed like the "classier" thing to do. At least he gave them a chance to stop us, the FG is guaranteed points I actually think he would of looked worse kicking the FG. What might be taken as "unclassy" is leaving the starters in for so long. |

Possibly, but keeping the seniors like Painter, Sheets, Orton, Tardy, Whittington, Benton etc. in for their last game at Purdue isn't really a bad thing IMO. The last three mentioned up there will probably never play a down of football again in their lives, and with the season that Painter has had, I think he deserved to stay in there and play as much as possible. Its a tough situation, it sounds like everyone on the team was having a good time and Tiller let them enjoy it. With the rough season and the fact that Tiller really likes this group of kids, I'm not really that upset. |

Oh I agree, keeping them in was a good thing to do since it was more than likely their last game ever. I was just saying that might be what people take away as unclassy. |

I'm just glad I was on a plane to NY for Thanksgiving and I missed the entire game. Sometimes, you just get lucky. |
