Jordan Brewer is the Carmel kid you are talking about, he is currently playing at a JUCO somewhere right now. As I see it, these are the key players we lost: Sheets, Painter (at least to me), Tardy, Orton, Heygood, and Williams. I feel like we bring back quite a bit. Siller/Elliot, Taylor, Valentin/Smith at WR, Adams at TE, Plue/Jones/Hedstrom/Pierce/Zwilling on the OL, Kerrigan/Gooden/Brown at DE, Neal at DT, Carlino/Holland at LB, Pender/King/Adams at CB, and McLean at S have all started games before. Players like Bolden, McKey/Lindsay at TE, a handful of other OL, Mondek/Golding on the DL, Greaves/Ezenwa/Evans/Werner(hopefully) at LB, and McKinley/Charlton Williams at DB have seen playing time. Is that great talent? No, but its no worse than what we had last year. We have big holes at WR (still) and the DL, but everywhere else we have experience. We are probably going to bring in 5-6 recruits who will get a shot at WR (4 already, a handful of others potentially) and 6-7 recruits who will get a shot on the DL (5 already, a handful of others we are going after, a few will probably move to the OL). The staff likes the young OL prospects, so hopefully another year with Hope on the staff and now 2 guys with OL backgrounds, those guys will continue to get better. We never were healthy there last year, and that contributed to a lot of the problems. Depending on how recruiting ends up, we may have 5-10 players capable of contributing early also. The FL kids are bringing speed and athleticism that could help early, and the two DTs we have committed are BIG. Beckford, an '08 kid who had to wait a year to enroll, will be here in the spring and was expected to contribute this past year at LB, so he should help. We have a chance to close strong in recruiting too, with heavy interest from some really good players. If we get commits from a group of Montez Robinson, Michael Buchanon, Al-Terek McBurse (my favorite prospect, but its going to be tough to pull him), Darren Myles, Quan Flethcer, Jordan Barnes, Sam Barrington, Antone Exum, Joshua Evans, and a few others, our class will be very good. I really like the way Hope is pursuing recruiting. These FL/GA/TX kids are going to be players. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

I agree dc. Hope is sticking to his game plan of recruiting the South. Despite some apprehension from the fan base, he hasn't panicked. He knows the long term success of our program depends on increasing the quality of our recruits. |

I'm sure you've seen me post about it, but Wake Forest has gone 27-12, including an ACC Championship and BCS Bowl, the past three seasons with a roster full of the type of kids we are recruiting right now. The 2-3 star kids from FL/GA/TX that are under the radar because of the volume of players in FL and miss out on UF/FSU/UM. These kids are football players, they are used to year-round football since they have Spring ball in the South, and aren't afraid of the competition. Also, they have lots and lots of speed. Give them a year or two, and they are legit high major, D1 football players. If we can get 15-20 of those kids a year, we will improve over time. Getting our name out in FL and gaining a reputation for playing FL kids and getting them their degrees and to the NFL will be huge for the future. FL recruiting is a lot of reputation. I think this year's recruiting class will be very productive, and depending on what our remaining targets do, could end up decently ranked. |
