Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Regardless of stats, Johnson was a much more important player to this team and program. This year's stats only verify that. With the way we overextend on the perimeter, we need a player in the middle capable of protecting the rim.

I thought Martin was going to be very important to this team at the beginning of last year because of his offense and the fact that I thought Hummel was going to struggle on that end and I didn't know Grant would turn into the league's best 3 point shooter. When Martin became inefficient on the offensive end and the two above became legit offensive weapons, he became less valuable.
JJ protects the rim?

His 2 blocks a game would say that he does. His rebounding is another story though, its pretty bad right now.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

He got torched on defense? News to me. He only played 15 minutes out of 45.

He had 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 blocks in only 19 minutes against Duke.

he played 15 minutes because he had 4 fouls

the griffins put up 37 points on turdue

what game are you talking about? he cant play defense

as for the duke game, if he played such a great game, why did he play only 19 minutes?

Against a good Duke team, JJ had 12 points on 4-6 shooting and 3 blocks. Only 3 boards that game but I dont think anyone would disagree that he isn't a good rebounder at this point in his career. However he does play decent defense and blocks quite a few shots. Definitely important to the team and will get better.

as stated, if he is so valuable, why only 19 minutes when he is such a defensive force and you cant stop anyone?

Rebounding. Calasan has been better on the boards and playing really well.

The Griffins put up a lot of points on a lot of players. Blake Griffin isn't going to be the #1 pick in the draft next year for no reason.

JJ alters and blocks quite a few shots. If you don't see that, you are blind and just hate Purdue.

So it's time for a recap here:

1) Yesterday I posted that Scott Martin was arguably our best player last preseason but fell off the radar after conference season started.

2) GomerPixie wasted 30 or so minutes of his sad life combing through ESPN archives until he found a post from 362 days ago....and started a thread here posting a link to that thread. This link merely confirms exactly what I posted yesterday.

3) BiasedHomer then tries to change the subject to Robbie Hummel. Hummel ironicaly was first team All-Big Ten while Martin didn't make any of the all-conference teams.

4) Myself and dcamden have both stated that Martin probably will be a solid player at Notre Lame. I guess Pixie interprets that as "Martin is trash".

5) Pixie still has yet to contribute anything useful to this board or the IU board...and still has yet to even come up with something original.

no - I contend that Martin was/is certainly no worse than Jew jew.

Against IU, Greasy Hair was the only who remotely impressed me.

That's a valid point. Martin did still have better numbers in conference play:

Martin: 20.2 mpg, 6.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 33.7% FG, 35% 3FG
Johnson: 14.4 mpg, 3.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 40% FG

In postseason play the gap closed significantly:

Martin: 19.0 mpg, 5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 33% FG
Johnson: 14.0 mpg, 4.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 40% FG

The main difference though, is VALUE to the team. We have plenty of perimeter players and needed Martin to play in the post. Martin didn't want to play in the post...and since Johnson is playing there his is more valuable to the team.
