By Michael Osipoff on December 15, 2008 12:59 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0) Nemanja Calasan should be fine for No. 14 Purdue's game this coming Saturday against No. 23 Davidson at Conseco Fieldhouse. The senior practiced fully on Monday, and even stayed after to work on his game. He had left the Boilermakers' victory over Indiana State this past Saturday with 10:01 left, after hurting his left leg. Also, he didn't start that game after missing Friday's practice, following an incident where a band broke on a lat machine he was using and the weights landed on his head and neck. "He battles through things, he's always been able to battle through injuries," Purdue coach Matt Painter said on Monday afternoon. Calasan might be the biggest and most pleasant surprise of the season in my opinion. Prior to the Indiana State game he was averaging 10.6 pts a game and a hair under 6 rebounds. I believe he's even had 3 double doubles so far this season. Very solid numbers considering what a liability he was last year. His decision making has seemed to improve and he's found a nice touch around the basket. He isn't shooting 3's at the clip he was last year and instead only taking the shot if he's wide open which I don't have a problem with since he's proven he can hit that open jumper quite a bit. If this keeps up, I'll be happy to say he wasn't the waste of the scholarship I thought he was going to be after last season. |

Thanks for the update. I didn't think his injury would be any real concern unless it was a patella dislocation...which it didn't appear to be. I agree that his production had picked up recently and I'll add that we can't afford to lose him or Johnson this season. |

I'm sure he feels he's gods gift to big men everywhere... -_- :P On a more serious note I'm sure my words will get twisted to some how say that I think that Calasan is better than D.J. White (which I don't White is out of Calasans league)... :ermm: Oh well just one of those risks you take for posting on this boar right.... :P |

Oh god, here we go again. Wait til UB gets ahold of that comment. I seriously hope that comment was for baiting purposes. I only played 1 year of high school and I'm closer to being in Calasan's league than he is of being in D.J.'s. |

I obviously do not feel that, he is any where as good as DJ White.... Simply expressing my pleasure in how he has turned into a decent player off the bench this year. He's figured out his role on the time and doing well in it. Unlike last year. |

oh shit, I misread that, my bad brother! I put the word think in between don't and White as I read it. I thought it said "which i don't THINK White is out of Calasan's league! Haha, sorry for putting words into your mouth. |

Calasan is better this year, I agree. He needs to be in order for this team to be successful. And I don't think he is anywhere near DJ's level of ability, whoever said that. As long as he doesn't brick a bunch of 3's in a game I like the way he plays. Just don't be shooting outside if you don't have to. And, whats up w/ that stupid hook shot? Like it ever works. Dude-just go up strong and either 1)make the basket or die trying 2) draw the foul and shoot some FT's. That's your job. That's it. |

I'm sure NBA scouts are just drooling over the Amish Serb's skillsets. |

Who the fuck cares what NBA scouts think? I'll take 10 and 5 from one half of our center position any day of the week. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

I definitely like what I've seen from him this year. I think he has the potential to win BTPOY and possibly be 1st or 2nd team all american. There aren't many players that can bang down low with the big boys and then step out to 30 feet and drain 3's on a regular basis. He's incredible. I just wish we would of had him for 4 years. If he had, we may be looking at 4 straight NCAA titles instead of 3! Boiler Up! Hail Purdue! |

Hey that reminds me. BiasedHomer, you said last week that IU would currently be a top 3 team if it weren't for the allegedly self-induced death penalty. After further considering last year's 1-6 record vs. top 40 teams (5 losses by double digits), have you rethought your homer post? |
