  • Exxon Mobil: $45 Billion in profits
Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

sure it was about oil. it was as much about securing our future supplies as well as denying china and india and other emerging economies. that said, whats the problem with corporations making profits? BG is right, they employ alot of people and pay well. i for one wished i worked for an oil company. talk about job security.

...my uncle bought me into Exxon's stock investment program when i graduated high school and i've consistently contributed to it every since...lets just say he's a smart man, i'm very happy today and i can't really argue with their record setting profits...hey man, if you can't beat 'em join 'em... ;)

Oh no, a well run company that turns profits. We can't have that!

Lets take their money away from them, and give it to the geniuses that are running the car companies and financial institutions. I'm sure they'll use it wisely!
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

I just hope they didn't invest the profits in the stock market, or any finance any risky mortgage loans.

I would hate all that hard work to be pissed up a gum stump.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

Without oil, the U.S. would be a third world country. Unfortunately, those crazy fuckers in the Mid-east control a lot of it. We could still be a 2nd world country w/o oil if The Messiah would let us burn coal.

The U.S. oil companies made a huge profit windfall from the high price of oil last year. Stabilizing the Mid-east actually hurts their profits by lowering world oil prices. So what does it mean if you believe "the war in Iraq was about oil?" Do you mean it was about lowering oil prices to ensure a higher standard of living for average working Americans? If so, I would tend to agree.

i'm not a huge fan of exxon mobil seeing as though they could make money by sheer existence (due to american consumption of oil); but you can't argue with them making a profit. at least they're not handing out billions of dollars in bonuses to their employees (when they couldn't afford it), or buying airplanes with taxpayer's dollars.

The government should decide what they do with their profits and how to best continue making profits in the future. I mean, central planning works waaaaaaaaaay better than letting a company go buck wild and make all kinds of money.

I bet The Messiah has dusted off Stalin's five year plans so they can be studied and used to ensure our economic prosperity.

"Without oil, the U.S. would be a third world country. Unfortunately, those crazy fuckers in the Mid-east control a lot of it."-lars

1.) with our current monetary policy we will soon be a 3rd world country, oil or no oil. (although i give you the point that oil helps.)
2.) why the fuck are we so cozy with israel who has NO OIL and wont negotiate with the arabs that have it? we have never based foreign policy on moral issues, why dont we go the obvious route and secure our future? the arabs have the oil, why are we so hostile? not every arab wants to blow us up. alliances could be made, if only we wanted to. many countries have reached out to us, only to have israhell stand in the way. why is that?
