Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Calhoun is the highest paid state employee in Conneticut. It is a very valid question, just asked at the wrong time. Should a state school be paying 1.6 million of taxpayers dollars to pay a basketball coach? All other state employees are faced with possible lay-offs or pay cuts..........it is a valid question.
You honestly think that coaches are paid with taxpayers' dollars?
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Athletic departments are funded through donations, not state assistance. The athletic departments function separately from the actual university financially. Otherwise, Purdue would have much better athletic facilities than it does now because he could tap into the 1-2 billion dollar endowment that the university has.

Athletic department budgets are seperate from teh University but the coaches are University employees just like any other faculty or staff. You can find their salaries online since IU is a public school and it is a public record.

what Calhoun failed to mention was, that much of the revenue he was bragging about comes from their Women's basketball program.

also, calhoun makes 1.5 million. that's not really a staggering amount per se. there are a lot higher paid college coaches..
He also makes a really good point about the revenue he brings in for the school. (And who pays him for that matter)
He doesn't the program does. Its not like he is out there making the shots and running the promotional adds, hes largely responsible for the upkeep and play of the team that is it.

That's it huh?......guess it would make sense to dump his salary and hire some noname coach.

Calhoun and Gino Auriemma have a well known heated feud. Calhoun said something along the lines that the men's championship made all of the basketball fans in Connecticut happy, while the women's championship made 'all the old women happy.' Funny, but not real appropriate when you are talking about someone else who is bringing in a lot of attention and money to the university.

The question wasn't appropriate in the way it was asked nor was the forum correct, but Calhoun probably has now placed a target on his back for rogue journalists looking to make a name for themselves with the way he answered.
