Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/news/ap/politics/2009/Jun/09/house_plan_seeks_to_pull_car_sales_out_of_doldrums.html

With auto sales in the doldrums, the House considered a plan Tuesday to provide vouchers of up to $4,500 for consumers who turn in their gas-guzzling cars and trucks for more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Under the House bill, car owners could get a voucher worth $3,500 if they traded in a vehicle getting 18 miles per gallon or less for one getting at least 22 miles per gallon. The value of the voucher would grow to $4,500 if the mileage of the new car is 10 mpg higher than the old vehicle. The miles per gallon figures are listed on the window sticker.

Owners of sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks or minivans that get 18 mpg or less could receive a voucher for $3,500 if their new truck or SUV is at least 2 mpg higher than their old vehicle. The voucher would increase to $4,500 if the mileage of the new truck or SUV is at least 5 mpg higher than the older vehicle. Consumers could also receive vouchers for leased vehicles.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!! Please, those of you who have supported progressive government.....I'm not going to insult you anymore because I believe your intent is sincere, these politicians who you have supported, however, are not. This is absolute insanity!!!

And please please please don't tell me that the same thing would have happened under McCain. I'm not a huge McCain supporter as you know, but to say that his admin would be this extreme on either side of the aisle is just lunacy.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

Not a terrible idea in itself. But the execution... $3500 for 2 MPG?

We'd be better off educating people how to drive more fuel efficiently. Every time I see someone speed to a red light I want to throw something at them.

Under Feinstein's plan, a passenger car owner's trade-in would need to get 17 mpg or less to qualify and only new passenger cars getting at least 24 mpg would be eligible. Owners could receive a $2,500 voucher for a new car that gets at least 7 mpg more than their old car. The voucher would increase to $3,500 for new cars with a 10 mpg improvement and $4,500 for new cars with a 13 mpg increase in fuel efficiency.

That sounds better at least. If you want to push fuel economy, at least have some standards.

AaronK,

All you can do is laugh. If I went to rally between everything Washington and the State of North Carolina does that is stupid I would do nothing else. Pres Obama is trying to get stuff passed by overwhelming.

Card Check
Stimulus
Buying the Car manu
Forced green Energy
Car vouchers
Health Care
Righting all the wrongs in the world
N Korea
Iran
Chavez
Car vouchers

that is just what I can think of

I swear if in 2007 someone told you by June 2009
all this would be proposed you would have laughed that person out of the room.

This is coercion, plain and simple, and an attack on our personal liberties. The government will make it unaffordable to own what you want and to drive what you want and for the manufacturers to build what you want. They will do it by bills like this, subsidies on their G.M. cars, and strategically increased taxes on fuel, parts, etc for cars they don't want you to have.

Don't get me wrong, I am all about developing technology for the future and increasing the efficiency of our vehicles and reducing our dependence on foreign oil, etc. However, I believe these gains in technology and advancement should come from the private sector ONLY, not government mandates.

Problem with that is since the government now owns the majority of all these companies (like GM) they ARE the private sector. Or is it the other way around?

Government regulations, bureaucracy, lobbying and vested interests in oil companies by politicians over the last 4 decades has hindered development.

Now, they can develop what they want, and you will be forced to use it one way or another.
