Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Without looking it up, do you know in what state and in what year the last person in the United States was executed by firing squad?

John Albert Taylor, Utah, 1996. Utah removed the firing squad in 2004...at the time it was an option that those who were going to be executed were given.

Idaho passed a bill in its senate to remove it as an option in 2009...Oklahoma is the only state that appears to have it as an option (as a secondary method to lethal injection). Utah still has three inmates that have chosen (before Utah banned it) it as their method of death should their appeals all run out.

I wasn't trying to claim that I knew it, because I didn't (other than knowing it was in Utah). I was just a little surprised that it had been used so recently and apparantly still may be used in three cases in Utah.

UpAt -- trouble's sig sparked it. Just got to wondering about when it was last used.

i didnt know it. i guessed gilmore because i mistakenly thought the firing squad wasnt used after his. i since did some research, (and it caused a nightmare.)
gilmore was executed on january 17, 1977 at 8:07 am.
you can look up his life story on your own; i saw "the executioner's song" by norman mailer which is considered the most comprehensive account of his life.
after researching gilmores life last night, i went to bed and dreamed i killed somebody. then i tried to cover up the crime scene. i kept thinking, " im not a bad person, but nobody will believe me." i finally forced myself awake. it was 5 am and i was sweating profusly.
thank you brum for this topic.
