Check out the illustrious Sen from California as she interrupts a General during his testimony. You know, she has worked so hard! :banghead: |

That ignorant, lefty bitch is one of the reasons I left Calif six years ago. That was one of the best decisions I've ever made. |

Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism. | |

While I would agree, I must say I was surprised to hear the general even use the word "ma'am." I mean, this is a guy who calls everyone he knows by their rank or title. Her title is senator. Just seems weird he didn't use it to begin with. But yeah, she totally came off as a snobby bitch. |

Dreach, That is not true. From my experience if a Senior officer called you by your rank followed by your last name it meant you had fucked up. They usually have a use your first name, nickname or your call sign. When addressing a superior you call them Sir or Ma'am. That is an old NCO trick to call a Lieutenant LT or say Lieutenant with a negative meaning. When they called you Sir you knew you had their respect. That is definitive by the culture of the unit. By Military protocol Ma'am is the correct term in a direct conversation. Rank is used to let everyone know whom you are addressing. Hey she can be called whatever she wants. I would have chosen a different adjective myself. Ma'am , Senator, Madam Chair is not how I refer to her in casual conversation. |

Exactly right Boiler. Any time a subordinate addresses a higher ranked female, she is addressed as Ma'am. He in no way meant any disrespect to her, although I am sure he called her something else after the briefing. |

I heard on the radio yesterday that you only address your inferiors (is that the right word?) in military by their title, all superiors are ma'am or sir. If that is true, then it is very funny that Barbie (I assume she is OK with that title) actually asked to be talked down to......you think she has some kind of massochistic military fetish? :D |

In her tiny mind, I am sure she was trying to put the lowly One Star in his place. She has worked so hard. LMAO It is kind of funny though that Aaron hit it on the head when he said she asked to be talked down to. When I was on active duty, aside from my fellow pilots, the entire crew was enlisted. Many of them I knew well and usually used their first names unless we were aboard. At those times, to avoid confusion, you always used the crew position to address each other. While I did use first names in most circumstances, they knew, and I reserved the right to to do otherwise. As Boiler said, if I addressed them as Sgt or Airman, they pretty much knew I wasn't happy about something. I had my ass chewed a few times too and you never wanted to hear the dreaded Capt, what the hell are you doing thing. What you never did, unless told to do so, was address a superior rank by their first names. It was ALWAYS sir or ma'am. The thing I find most hilarious about the whole thing is her comment about working so hard to get there. This, to a General officer in the military. Weeks and months away from family, early briefings, sleeping in tents and having bad guys trying to kill you. I can go on and on. Someone is owed an apology for this crap and it isn't the overworked senator from the Left coast!
