Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I guess I don't get UB's point here....those posting on the Rivals board are correct, it seems pretty illogical that the Wooden Tradition would have Purdue playing Ball State.
Indy Star actually posted a blog by Jeff Washburn, and the idea does make some sense. Purdue is scheduled to play Ball State in Mackey on December 5, and the suggestion is that the schools cancel that game and pair the teams in the Wooden Tradition.

Personally, I'd like to see if we can get a quality major-conference opponent in the Tradition...as we usually do. But time is running out quickly.

I don't understand why they don't have both Purdue and IU play in it every year against two other quality opponents from the midwest like Louisville, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Xavier, Butler.

Imagine the turnout for IU vs. Louisville and Purdue vs Kentucky.

I guess it is easier said then done..
IU is in no hurry to help support a turdue tourney that honors the biggest cheater in NCAA history
haven't they played in it before?

I think we should scrap the wooden tradition and start a new tournament that IU and Purdue played in yearly.

Yeah, getting Purdue to schedule Louisville or Kentucky is "easier said than done"

We played Louisville two years ago in the Wooden Tradition.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Fact is, there weren't any teams that wanted to travel and play a top 10 team in what would amount to a home game for Purdue. Purdue tried pretty hard to get to get good competition, but nobody wanted to play, not much you can do about that.

face the facts: while turdue might be good this year, most would not look at it as a 'quality' loss given that turdue is basically a no-name program with no cache.

any good program looks at turdue like a mid-major: we should beat them and won't get rewarded for it but if we do lose to them, we'll get hammered for it.

I understand that completely. It just seems that unless Purdue is able to come up with a high quality opponent to replace the original Ball State date...which will be hard to impossible with that little notice...that playing in the Wooden tradition can do nothing but lower their SOS and take out what could have been a quality opponent on their schedule.

If the Wooden tradition wants highly ranked opponents in it, they should be able to accomodate those teams with good matchups. If not, those teams might as well schedule a quality opponent on their own.

Agreed. Its definitely going to hurt the SOS. I'd rather Purdue scrap the Wooden tradition and try to get something started up with Louisville on a yearly basis. I think it'd be cool if somehow Purdue and Louisville could play the same day (maybe even same venue) as IU/UK. Sort of a state of Kentucky vs state of Indiana thing.

This pretty much goes on the Wooden Tradition people. They get Purdue to agree to this, and they need to make it worthwhile for Purdue. A 30 point romp against a bad team does nothing for anyone.
