Brian Snow Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting Talk about it in Knucklehead Central On the field the Purdue Boilermakers football team scored a big win over the Ohio State Buckeyes over the weekend. Off the field the Purdue basketball squad hosted an unofficial visitor from the Buckeye State, and when he left, he decided that West Lafayette was the place for him. As one of the top combo guards in the Midwest and the state of Ohio in the 2012 class, Kyle Molock has attracted attention from numerous schools. According to his father, Karl, his son was receiving interest from St. Joseph's, Ohio University, Akron, Georgia State, Florida International, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame, to go along with the offer from Purdue. In the end however, it was the Boilermakers program that stood out. "We went on and made the choice, and it was a long ways coming. We did a lot of research on Purdue and we talked to the coaching staff. What sealed it is on the visit we had extensive time with Coach Painter and his staff. We also talked to academic people. It was what (Kyle) was looking for, and what me and wife were looking for," said Karl Molock. The Molock family took an early start to the recruiting process, so despite the fact that he is a young prospect, the family does not feel that anything was rushed into. In fact, they have done plenty of research on Purdue and the entire process in general. "To be honest with you we have been looking at schools since the eighth grade," said Molock. "He has taken visits to what most people would consider elite programs. We wanted academics and basketball. Purdue was just the best fit for him. From the comfort level to the coach, to the location, it just checked off on every level. Some school would have two out of six, but not six out of six." In fact, making the decision early is something Mr. Molock feels will benefit his son as his basketball career progresses. "I think it is great for Kyle. Kyle can just focus on school and developing his basketball game. He didn't want a long drawn out recruiting process. He wanted to feel comfortable, and we all felt was right and he wanted to get it out of the way." Molock becomes the second commitment in the 2012 class for the Boilermakers. He joins Ft. Wayne, Indiana wing Rapheal Davis who committed to Purdue in the summer. |

Hadn't heard of him until this weekend. Sounds promising, but who knows. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

A fair post. At the very least I would say it's a good sign that the kid is from Ohio. There is a lot of 2012 talent in Indiana so if Painter is taking an Ohio kid before some of the Indiana kids out there he must see something special in him. As a freshman (or technically a sophomore now?) you guys will obviously get plenty of good looks at him so there's no rush to try and dissect him right this instant. |

well, if it doesn't pan out and the kid starts to suck Painter can pull a Krispy and yank his scholarship and send him packing |

I think its a good sign that Painter and the staff followed the highly touted Indiana 2012 class all summer long on the AAU circuit, and had most of them on campus this summer, and he offered this guy before he offered either Hollowell or Burgett. Tom Izzo went to one of Molock's open gyms and asked him to go to MSU's midnight madness this weekend, but he decided to visit Purdue. I like when we are recruiting the same players as Tom Izzo. |

Name this recruit: Held offers from Purdue, IUPUI, and Butler. And didn't choose Purdue. Who is he? |
