This is something that hasn't been discussed much on this board. We haven't played quite enough games to know for sure, but I believe this year's team is slightly better than last year's. We will probably finish with a similar record against a slightly weaker schedule but the OSU win goes a long way. We have a better offensive line, and a better QB for our scheme (we need someone who can scramble at least a little bit). Bolden and Valentin are better playmakers than we had last year, and I think the defense is a little better as well. |

Yes. This team is in much better physical condition. We play hard, finish strong regardless of the score without tiring. Better play from both offensive and defensive lines. Better production out of the running backs. Obviously, the turnover issue needs to be resolved, but mostly this team is better all around. We haven't gotten blown out in any game really, except the NIU debacle, and have been in every game right to the end regardless of the record. |

talent-wise? i'm not so sure. but it seems like you guys hang around in the games for a lot longer. your stupid mistakes have KILLED you guys...a lot like Illinois. You have some talent but next year is the real test. there's got to be a big sign of improvement or else Hope is in over his head (which is what i think is the case...). br |

I think that other than the IU game, the players had quit on Tiller by the end of the season....especially Kory Sheets. |

1131 yards and 16 TDs (plus 37 catches for 253 yards and a TD) completely disagrees with you. Kory Sheets' horrible offensive line and horrible play calling quit on him, and he was vocal about it, so the papers ran with it. What makes you think that Kory Sheets quit on Joe Tiller? “He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Gremlin. They are lighter and have a better torque to weight ratio. Odd question from you though, are you thinking of upgrading your car? |

Actually, I think last year was the only team that didn't quit on Tiller since '03. They were banged up and just not that good. But they did beat Michigan late in the season, which is (sadly) about they best they could do. And I also think last year was the only season that Sheets didn't quit. |

First seven games of the season for Sheets: 130 carries for 733 yards (5.6 ypc) Last five games of the season: 104 carries for 398 yards (3.8 ypc). I haven't checked, but I believe this is his lowest five game string of ypc in his career at Purdue. While Purdue didn't have the same talent as they had, it's still pretty damning evidence when you combine it with his quotes to the press. Sheets was always a good ypc guy (5.5 as a freshman)....his senior season, when he finally was getting the ball more, he had his lowest production in terms of ypc at 4.8. And considering that they were losing a lot, you would think his ypc would have went up as teams went prevent in blowouts. |

Northwestern was the only game that we were even remotely close to being blown out against. So I'm not sure where the padding of stats in blowouts comes from. And if we're getting blown out, we wouldn't have our best offensive player in the game and we surely wouldn't be running the ball. Our offensive line completely fell apart at the tail end of the year. We pulled the gray shirt off of a kid who had no business playing last year because we needed bodies. We played a different line nearly every game. It was an absolute mess. The QB was just as bad. 4 of the last 5 games, we were playing Justin Siller at QB. Good defenses like Iowa and Michigan State were not in the least worried about the passing game and knew that all they had to do was stop Sheets and they'd beat us. Kory Sheets didn't give up, the offense around him fell apart. |

i'd say as of now, it's about the same; the main difference is that there were much higher expectations for painter and co. last season than there were for a new coach, a new starting QB, etc. this season. time will tell on whether this season truly is better, but it looks pretty much the same as me. |
