| Welcome to Our Hoosier Board! Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions. Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful. Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine! Bob - I hope you're doing well. Above anything, I want to say thanks. Thank you for what you did for IU. Thank you for what you've done to Indiana University. Thank you for setting a standard on and off the court. Thank you for enriching the lives of many. Thank you for sticking to your guns and thank you for being you. Robert Montgomery Knight. RMK. You truly are the legacy of IU up to now. You converted me. You made me a Hoosier fan 2,500 miles from Bloomington, IN. Your coaching style represents all things I want to see in IU's future. Your unwillingness to settle for mediocrity is something I will teach my future children. I truly believe that you want everyone to become the best they can become. But, like a lot of leaders, I believe you've made a mistake. I didn't turn on you when you "choked" a player. I didn't turn on you when you had another court-side antic. And I've come close to bar-brawls when drunks have slammed your good name in the local watering hole. But now, nearly a decade since your firing, I feel you've made a bad move. Don't get me wrong, you were fucked over by the administration that sent you out of town. Miles Brand had it out for you and, seemingly, the university. I believe that had you not left Bloomington, we might have had a 6th banner to hang in 2002. But, that was then, this is now... Quit being selfish. You just sent back a $75,000 check from the alumni. You said you never took donations from the alumni in the past and you won't now. You want IU to settle for their wrong-doings. I believe they should, but they won't unless they are forced to. But, I think you're missing the point here, Bob. This HoF ceremony isn't a university thing. It's an alumni thing. It's a ceremony that should have happened years ago. Your whole career as a coach you've been about giving back. Getting the most out of your players on and off the court. Giving back to the fanbase... I have a hard time understanding your unwillingness to give back now. The fans at IU are the best in the nation. The ceremony will have thousands in attendance. Young and old. Some people there will only have a few years left in their life. I ask you, Robert, "What will you say to them?" Your teams were feared by the nation. You did things the RIGHT way, had no NCAA violations, graduated fine citizens, and were the role model for how to make a lot of out nothing. You were the leader of an army of individuals that believed in the same things. But, a leader without an army is simply a useless individual. You see, this ceremony isn't a Bob Knight ceremony. It's a ceremony of all the things that represent IU. While you played a big part in it the alumni played an even bigger part. You are given an opportunity to stand up in front of them and thank them for all the unconditional support you had for decades. Set your firing aside, you were god in Bloomington for well over 20 years. A few people made some bad decisions and you now feel it's everyone else's fault. Please, move on. We all have. Your fans have been the ones that have had to endure the shameful decade we are just finishing. Your fans didn't have the option to go elsewhere and be paid a lot. Your fans are still here and hang on to the glory days of ol' IU. Give them what they deserve. THEY are the reason Crean is here now. THEY are the reason that the University YOU made it in is turning around. THEY are the reason they invited you to come back as a celebration of something special. You may think this is merely dust in the wind but i have to ask you again a simple question that I hope you man-up and answer one of these days.. "What are you going to say to them?" One of many, Brian Wilson |

Question: Why do so many IU fans care so much about Bob Knight still? Edited by dçamden03, Oct 28 2009, 05:30 PM.

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

I think its a legitimate question. I don't really care what Joe Tiller, Gene Keady, Tony Dungy, or Dusty Baker are doing. I don't understand why its such a big deal. |

Yes, Dusty Baker..Keady..and others compare to Knight. Would you be asking the UCLA fanbase the same question about Wooden?......UNC about Dean Smith?......Purdue about.......scratch that one. |

So if they wanted to induct Joe Tiller or Keady into the Purdue Hall of Fame, or honor Dungy at a Colts thing and they in so many words said "fuck off" you wouldn't care? Nevermind, don't even answer, that comment in this thread is not any better than UB. |

Why would I care? I care about the current situation that my teams are in, inducting those guys in the HOF is a cool thing, but not really a big deal to me. |

Asking a question about Bob Knight is hijacking the thread? |
