BV is blind homer idiot. go ask Bill Walton how well he healed. or more to the point, Greg Grapeape Oden. or ask Ted Kitchel about his back. I could go on and on. Brokeback is a gimp. to think otherwise is just wishful and delusional |

1) Where are these reports of him having to do things a certain way? I certainly don't recall any. When he was injured, he struggled with certain things and he wore a brace. Since the end of the season, he's been pain free and doesn't wear any sort of brace anymore. 2) How do you know he hasn't been working out his back muscles? All reports have said that he's participated fully in all offseason workouts without any limitations. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Here's one article http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3903838 I also remember a quote from Kramer last season where he said something to the effect of, "come back to our room after the game and I guarantee you Robbie will be stiff as a board on the bed, icing his back". Was he not trying to rest his back all of last season and probably some during the offseason? Is it a stretch of the imagination to think that his back might be weaker than it otherwise would hadhe not been resting it? I'm still amazed that of my entire prediction post, the thing you pulled out of there is that Humml would go through injures. I said I think he will deal with some throughout the year but in the end would be fine and lead Purdue to the Final Four. It's not like I'm predicting he is going to have surgery and his career is over. Do you know for a fact that Hummel will have no injuries this year? Then why do you keep badgering me about my prediction that he might? |

Because you keep bringing up the back problems from last year, which is a complete non-issue to Painter, Hummel, and the entire Purdue basketball program. If the problems were still there and the risk was still there, do you think that he would have went out to Colorado for the WUG tryouts, made the team, went through their training camp, and been among the team leaders in minutes played out there? Also, would he have been a full go through all offseason workouts? He's been pain-free since the middle of last March. The back problems are a non-issue. |

I'm glad it is a non issue for Painter, Hummel and the entire Purdue basketball program. This is a PREDICTION thread which means I'm giving MY opinion. Not Painter's or Hummel's. How else can I say it? Maybe this will make you feel better. There is a miniscule chance that Hummel suffers through injury problems this year. It is my prediction that Hummel will deal with some injuries this year. I seriously don't understand what you are trying to prove. DJ White came back fully healed after breaking a bone in his foot. He then proceeded to break a bone in the same foot. When Hummel gets through the whole season unscathed, I'll come back and say I was wrong. In the meantime it is pointless for you to try and disprove my opinion about what might possibly happen in the future. Edited by dreachon, Nov 3 2009, 06:07 PM.

The guy picked last in gym class

I.e., Mark Prior's first injury was a leg injury. He overcompensated for it when he got, which led to arm injuries. |

The potential for re-injury I am sure is always a concern for Painter, Hummel, and the program. Potential injuries of any kind are always a concern to any program... |

I'll take Robbie Hummel and Matt Painter's opinion on the situation. |

Yes, I understand he has been saying he's been playing pain free and that his back problems are a non-factor now. Yes, he played pain free overseas and seems to have fully recovered. Yes, I understand this wasn't a tear or anything but a fracture. However, you can't tell me that they aren't the slightest bit concerned about injuries and having played sports before one of the first things you do as a preventative maintenance of sorts is to focus on 'high-risks areas' or areas you've injured previously. Even if the chance for re-injury is low, I can guarantee his back will be monitored and watched consistently. It's just good 'business'. It may not be an issue as far as an on the court thing, but to actually believe it is something that the staff or Hummel has taken it out of their minds completely is naive and would be short sighted/narrow minded on their parts. If it was a serious concern, Robbie wouldn't have been a part of the World University Games team. He had no problems in those tryouts or making the team, and there should be no problems at all. |

Both Rob and Matt have said that its a non-issue. Its making mountains out of mole holes if you really think its as bad as many think it is. |
