Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,

The NCAA had to do something because of its rules, and I think this is justified.

John Wall is a scary, scary player. I think he'll be next year's #1 pick and an All-American who has a chance at POY honors.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

The problem I have is a suspension of two games is that one is just a glorified practice. Might as well say that he can't play in one real game and one intra-squad scrimmage for the all the difference an exhibition game matters.

Exhibition games are not games, period. Just call it a one game suspension and be done with it.

West Virginia player suspended twenty games for playing on a team that had a professional player on it.

Where is the consistency in the NCAA rulings? Both Wall and the West Virginia player sound like that are being punished for association with someone who did something against the rules....but Wall gets one real game as his punishment and the WV player gets twenty?

They love him so much that they've taken his teams' Final Fours away for things he didn't do himself.

Yeah, they really love him. Conspiracies all around!!!

Back to the issue, which really wasn't a Cal issue. Don't you think there is quite a bit of inconsistency between the penalty that was given Wall and the West Virginia player? Is there really that much difference that the West Virginia player misses 20 games to Wall's 2?

And I'm not saying that the punishment for both should have been 2 or 20 games....I'm saying that their punishments IMO should have been very similar.

And to show it's not a Cal issue, I'll tell you that I think Bob Huggins is 20 times worse than Cal.

Someone has to fill me in. I have not read an article on either situation so I do not know what happened with Wall or the West Virginia player.

Seems inconsistent, but I don't know the full rule book of the NCAA and what punishments that they have outlined for each infraction. I'm sure there are also certain statutes that are followed in certain circumstances.

To be honest, I think both are sort of dumb anyways. The WVU player wasn't getting paid. John Wall's AAU coach was a certified agent, but wasn't representing any players.

I wonder how many professionals the college kids that were a part of the U19 and World University Games teams played against.

Wall had expenses paid by an AAU coach which apparently is okay...but the AAU coach has an agent's license, which is not okay. To be fair, he was not a practicing agent I believe.

The West Virginia player is from Turkey and played on a team in which another player was paid...apparently that is against NCAA rules.

To me they seem to be similar offenses...in fact, you can argue that Wall's might even be worse because he received the benefits in question while the West Virginia player did not. Anyway, as part of the NCAA's ruling, Wall does have to pay back the amount (something like $750).

But to me it's like they are saying this: if Wall's coach had paid a player on his AAU money to play for them, then Wall's punishment would have been 20 games.

Honestly, I'd say the punishment for Wall was fair, but the punishment for the West Virginia player was WAY out of line.

Yeah they seem pretty comparable, definitely don't get the huge difference in the punishments.

That just goes to show you how much money is changing hands. I mean, while Clifton was Wall's AAU coach, he paid for over $700 worth of travel costs and what not, and thats just on one player.

The NCAA is trying to get a handle on that stuff, including the Elite Camp situation which is awful. Unfortunately, its going to be hard to handle it completely.
