Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

The computers have Iowa #1. Know why? Because the NCAA stopped allowing the computer systems to use margin of victory as a factor.

For instance, Jeff Sagarin, who HATES what the NCAA did with it, has Iowa ranked #1 based on their record and who've they've played. But when he DOES factor in margin of victory, they are ranked #12.

Now, should margin of victory be included? At least somewhat. Running the score up obviously could be done, but if you capped the margin of victory for doing the calculations at something like three touchdowns, running the score up on hapless opponents would be taken out as a factor.

IU quitting once they got down says more about the coaching staff than what they did to get up.

Margin of victory is tough to quantify into rankings.

Was Iowa 18 points better than IU today? The scoreboard may say so, but I don't think so.

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

"I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Bob Davie just said IU was well coached. BOB DAVIE. Jesus if IU shouldn't have fired Lynch already, i can think of no better reason than Davie saying he is a good coach.

Two things I learned today:

1) Iowa is the WORST #4 team in the history of the polls. They aren't even the best team in the Big Ten.
2) Bill Lynch is the right coach for IU. The team has young talent there, we just need a little stability. Last season, IU wasn't in this game, so hanging there for 3 quarters should be pretty satisfying. The fact is, Lynch needs a few more years to get it done. Let's see where he is by then.

They weren't...but that is where the polls are supposed to come in.

When Iowa beat Northern Iowa by a point, the computer system treated it the same way as if they had won by 50.

BTW, on a separate note back to my whole IU coaching staff not making adjustments: in the first half of games, we are averaging a very good 16 points/game. In the second half, we are averaging 7 1/2. We're +9 in the first half (and that includes a -30 against Ohio State) and -49 in the second half.

Reese Davis now confirming what we said: rubber pellets were coming up under Turner's feet on the touchdown reversal.

what would be the point of firing him? first off, he's not the best coach in the world, i think anyone would admit that; however, he has brought a fair amount of talent here. The talent disparity isn't even close compared to what it was in the early to mid-2000's. Secondly, what any developing program needs is stability. What's the point of keeping a coach 3 (technically 2) years? Lastly, with the exception of his first season when he had freakish talent, he has improved each season. There is no point in firing him now 1) because it would ruin stability 2) we won't get much better 3) that's ANOTHER contract we have to pay off. It just doesn't make sense to fire him.

Lou Holtz over on CBS was saying he thought that the overturned TD was a clear touch and that the replay officials had no basis to overturn the call. With all that happened to the team, I am still pretty proud of the team today. I mean how many times can you get your feet pulled out from under you by the officiating and still get up. Last week no excuse with NW, this week, they were getting screwed and knew it. Has to be pretty disheartening to go through. Just look at how pissed we were and we were just sitting watching with a cold beer and snacks. The meltdown was hard to watch but in some ways, understandable.

the worst part is that you need irrefutable evidence that it WASN'T a TD. If anything, the turf chunks from his dragging his feet in the endzone should be a sure indication. oh well, can't expect to get calls from big ten officials on the road who have the agenda of getting Iowa into the BCS.

Off topic, did you see UCONN just give up a touch with 33 seconds to go after just taking the lead the play before. Good for Rutgers but I feel bad for UCONN, giving up the winning touch in the last seconds.

I totally agree with btown on keeping Lynch head. Lynch's passion on the field is a major contribute to the team and very lucky to have for an IU football program in the slumps. Like the announcer's were saying, it took Ferentz a good few years to get his team competitive. Plus we keep playing like this (mich,NW,OSU,IA,and soon PSU) especially on national tv (ESPN,2) think of all the recruits watching and coming in the next couple of years. It will be our turn SOME day, not saying soon, but someday.
