http://purdue.rivals.com/ Dont know much about the kid....Cam know anything? Here is the article Brian Neubert Talk about it in Knucklehead Central Purdue coach Matt Painter always talks about the importance of being aggressive in recruiting. He's certainly done that with the Class of 2012 and now has three commitments from high school sophomores to show for it. Jay Simpson Saturday, Painter offered 6-foot-8, 215-pound Champaign (Ill.) Central Jay Simpson a scholarship. He immediately accepted, as Fort Wayne South wing Rapheal Davis did in the spring and Dublin (Ohio) Coffman guard Kyle Molock did a few weeks ago. "Jay has a real high skill set already for a 15-year-old high school player," said Mike Mullins, who runs the Illinois Wolves AAU program Simpson plays for. "Combine that with the fact he's grown another inch and is 6-8, 215 pounds. He has a very advanced body for his age. Those combinations don't together a lot in the same package. "He has the ability to put the ball on the floor, he's a good passer, he sees the floor well and he has very nice shooting form and can face up and make shots. He has the strength to play with his back to the basket, play over either shoulder and block shots. He's an inside-outside player. "As he continues to develop and get stronger, people thought he was a high-major prospect in waiting by the end of the summer. I think the biggest thing holding him back was his youth. He suffers from some childhood asthma that would leave him winded in a short period of time, but ... he got a better handle on that. If you watched him work out as Coach Painter and Coach (Jack) Owens did, you come away very impressed." Simpson also drew early interest from locals Illinois and Bradley as well as Ohio State. Much more to come ... Edited by Boiler_22, Oct 31 2009, 05:21 PM.

Sounds pretty like a pretty solid all-around player from what I've read. Never heard of him before this, but everything I read about him says he has size, can handle the ball pretty well, is unselfish, and has a solid jumper. Seems like he fits the Purdue system from that description. Here's an excerpt from ChicagoHoops.com (never heard of the site, but I'm guessing it only deals with the Illinois prospects): Simpson, a 6'8" post, excels with his size and high level of skill. He is a player who is able to be highly effective scoring the basketball inside, but also can knock down mid-range jumpers, and is an excellent passer. Simpson saw his recruiting stock explode this spring and summer with the 15-U Illinois Wolves, and will be a Top 5 prospect when the ChicagoHoops.com 2012 rankings are updated next week. Thanks for the info, and with kids commiting so early you never know how the kids gonna turn out. Does sound like he has a lot of upside. I believe this fills up are 2012 class so maybe now he can really go after some of the 2011 kids we are recruiting. |

Never heard of this kid 'till now but that's not surprising when they're so young. Gotta say it.....love what I see. Big, strong, athletic......just what we need IMO. If these last two commits keep progressing, Matt will have beat everybody to the punch. He's definitely not worried about the usual suspects in the '12 Indiana class. Gutsy moves. Just add Dawson, sit back and enjoy the ride. |

UB: Congrats on getting a kid that didnt even have offers from low level D1 programs. This kid wouldnt even sniff the IU practice squad. He is just another one of Matt Painters 0 star duds that he likes to go and recruit. All this does is futher more prove that his 07 class was a lucky fluke and that the only reason they came to Turdue is because they were all butt buddies. When this kid gets to campus Triple Chin will be heading to the NIT and on the decline. BOOK IT. Edited by Boiler_22, Oct 31 2009, 11:57 PM.

Our staff has done a great job recruiting the Illinois Wolves, which is Simpson's AAU program. Egwu is part of that program, and he went from pretty a Illinois lock, to being a toss up between Purdue and UI. Randle is part of that program too, and we are very, very much involved in his recruitment. The fact that we are done with 2012 is crazy, but thats just how it goes. We'll get two for 2011 and be on our way. 2013 will be another good class I'm sure. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

At this point, yes. I can't see us going 4 years without a transfer or two though. Its hard to project how many rides we'll have for the 2011 and 2012 classes. Right now, we're full for Marrero's class. Edited by dçamden03, Nov 2 2009, 10:35 PM.
