Hog, what do you think the chances of Charlie being back after this season after losing twice to Navy? I have read that ND "should" go after Cincy's coach. I am kinda sick of the coaching carosel and then having to hear from haters about how ND doesn't live up to their contracts but i never wanted Chuck to be signed to a 10 year deal, way to premature and no matter what everyone says about Ty, i can tell you most other programs would have done the same with him. Just wanted to see what you think as i know you are a fellow ND fan. Also, if they were to let him go, who would be on your short list? Also, i really don't want this to turn into a pissing match from PU or even other IU fans about ND. Please refrain from talking about Ty and other contract issues. |

Not a Notre Dame fan but I'll throw my two cents in. I think Notre Dame loses to Pitt and maybe Stanford to go 8-4 or 7-5 on the year and make a decent bowl. I still think Notre Dame gives Fat Charlie one more year, but this was supposed to be the year they make a jump, and I don't see Notre Dame being much better next year. For one I think you guys lose Tate to the NFL. His draft stock won't get much higher, and after what happened to Bradford I think players are going to be less likely to risk it and jump while they can. If the Irish have a similar season next year or worse, I think he's gone.

I think that his chances of coming back are directly related to the last 3 games of the season. I don't think that the loss to Navy - which isn't as bad as what everyone makes it out to be - is the tipping point for him. If he can win 2, or even all 3 of these last 3 i think he will be back. Firstly, because of the contract situation, and secondly because they have progressed some. IF he does return, something will have to be done about the defense. The offense has struggled at time in the red zone, but if ND's defense is even average this year, then they are 8-1 at worst right now. If he doesn't come back who would i like to see? I would be happy with Brian Kelly or Gary Patterson from TCU. I could probably live with Jon Gruden, though i am not sure he is he right fit. I think the talks among the fanbase of Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, and Les Miles are pipedreams. First off, i wouldn't want Meyer of Miles. Second, they aren't go to leave their programs to finish someone else's rebuilding job. My personal #1 choice for the job would be Tommy Tuberville. Other than the fact that he isn't Catholic/a ND guy, he is just about a perfect fit. He isn't coaching right now, but wants to again, so you don't have to worry about a buyout. He is a classy guy and a solid recruiter. He has coached and won consistently at the highest level of the game. So you know he can do it and handle the pressure. He would have access to the SEC recruiting and coaching pipeline. He comes from a defensive background, and his teams are always strong on the defensive side of the ball. Oh, and Tuberville's wife is from Indiana so.... Hell, my ideal scenario would be to hire Tuberville as head coach, and retain Charlie as OC and QB coach. I think you are right, though i am not completely sure about the 7-5. I also think you are right about Golden Tate. Everyone talks about Clausen, but I think that Tate would be a more likely candidate to leave early. As you said, his stock isn't going to get any higher, and if he has to play alongside a healthy Michael Floyd for a full year, as well as a more developed Kyle Rudolph, Shaq Evans, and Deion Walker then his stats most likely will go down. Tate's case is kind of interesting though because he is also a pretty good baseball player, and i think the still has some interest in pursuing both sports. |

I totally agree Hog, especially on Tate I am not so sure he will be gone this year, but ideally i would want to keep Charlie as OC/head recruiter. |

Weis has obviously under performed under the spotlight. I used to be high on the guy myself, but he hasn't proven himself what-so-ever. ND fans aren't satisfied with winning records... Also, Golden Tate is probably my favorite player to watch this season so far. He's just explosive. And it REALLY pisses me off that they don't have him on NCAA 2009 (last years game). I can't find him anywhere on ND's depthchart >=| |
