Sounds like he's going to apply for a 6th year of eligibility. This would be huge for the defense next year. http://boilerstation.jconline.com/article/20091109/SPORTS020101/911090327/1046/Tragedy-too-close-to-home-for-Purdue-s-Smith |

If there was ever a player who deserved a 6th year, it'd certainly be him. He's missed two full seasons because of injury. Now, the question is does he want to do it. I'm not sure he'll ever have an NFL future because of injuries, he's already got his undergrad degree (although he is in grad school currently), and knowing him personally, there are other things in his life that may keep him from coming back. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Werner is solid this year-I hope he does come back or is able to. Not sure who the hell else will play LB next year to be honest-still thin there. |

We have Antwon Higgs a true Fr who has seen a decent amount of time this year to take his place but Werner has been our best LB and if he can get get a 6th year it would allow us to redshirt our LBs in next years class. I dont know how they decide on this kind of thing. Torri Williams was givin a 6th year and Jordon Shiply of Texas was givin a 6th year so id say there is hope. If Werner applies for a 6th year, he'll get it. Thats a defenite IMO. The question is if he wants to get that 6th year? IMO he does, but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. If he doesn't, which is also possible, then its also okay because we have great options as linebackers. |
