Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,

Well, I was at the game tonight and my first thoughts are that I'm really glad we didn't redshirt Barlow... that kid has got a ton of potential and a great basketball IQ.

It is rare to see a guy that is 6'5 and is willing to go the extra mile to find the open man. He looked like a freshman at times but next year he is definitely going to be the first guy off the bench. He has the potential to be one hell of a 6th man and I mean that in a good way with all respect to him.

Second, Byrd has a knack for scoring and that's about it. He's raw in every other aspect of the game. He has a body to compete at the college level but he isn't there defensively or mentally yet.

Bade is a bit of a liability offensively and a so-so defender at this point. Although he looks to have a knack for finding the rebound and if he can contribute 10-15 minutes a game with 6-7 boards he will be just what we need.

Smith appears to be the most improved player. He looked more confident in all aspects of his game and lost the deer in the headlights look he had for all of last year. He hustles and I think that's going to get him some minutes this season.

Kramer did well what Kramer does.

Moore and Grant look to be finding their shots still but it's early and they saw relatively limited action compared to what they will be playing later in the year.

Hummell looked like you'd expect a healthy Hummell to look and Johnson looks like he is ready to make another stride or two this year.

All and all I'm excited for the Barlow to Johnson connection... they seem to have good chemistry together.

Gotta ask, seriously -- is John Hart so bad that he can't get more than 3 minutes in a game like this?
Although I don't like that he's using a scholarship, he wasn't really brought to Purdue to play significant minutes. I think he's pretty much performed as expected. He'll be our 12th or 13th rotation guy his entire career. But he's also a very big asset in practice, especially last year.

How about Capo, Roth, and Muniru getting 7 or less minutes? Are they that bad?

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

CS Northridge 16 of 34 from the free throw line? Jeez.
CSN was 23-43. Purdue was 20-30. Pretty ugly all around.

Well, I've watched the game up until the last TV TO, which I'm assuming was pretty much meaningless. Here are my thoughts:

-Our starting 5 looked great. Getting wide open shots for guys like Hummel and Johnson in positions to succeed is key, and we did that. With as well as we shot it, Grant and Moore still missed quite a few shots they normally hit. Scary.

-Kelsey Barlow is good. I'm not sure how much he'll play, once LewJack comes back, but he can play the game. He's tall, athletic, can handle, and just knows what he is doing. And the announcers made a great point, the game just looks slow to him, which isn't normal for most freshmen.

-DJ Byrd will never be a go to star IMO, but he's going to be an effective scorer his entire career at Purdue. His stroke is rock solid and he has a great feel for the game.

-Ryne Smith will play significant minutes and be a weapon. I'm surprised when he misses. He's not great defensively, but he's improved and is adequate.

-Bade will show flashes of good and bad. He's got a good body and really works at rebounding. You can tell he still is thinking a lot on defense, especially on high screens and rotations (our starters looked GREAT at that by the way), but you can tell he really wants to be good at it, and I think he'll be better as the year goes on.

-The game went as expected to me. Starters came out focused and in rhythm. You can tell this is their third year together. This isn't just another year for them, its important and you can tell. Rhythm was lost when the new guys came in, but that's what the pre-conference is for. It'll get better, especially since I think we have guys who are both talented and willing to blend in on our bench. The three freshmen plus Smith really impressed me. Kelsey Barlow is better than expected, and when you look back at it, you'll probably be baffled about how he wasn't a top 150 ranked recruit (also another player that Painter got in on early before other big schools did).

Did you record it or find someplace to catch a replay online? I can't get on 360, of course, and would love to watch it if you know of some place to see it somewhere.

I watched it on 360. Check BTN's schedule. They may show a replay throughout the week.

Seriously?

Capo and Muniru are true freshman. And we didn't waste a redshirt on Roth, plus he's already played more minutes than Hart may play in his entire career.

Is there any reason you want to turn this into an IU/Purdue debate with an irrelevant analogy when it's simply about John Hart? A closer analogy would be Tijan Jobe, and we have no problem telling you that he is that bad and that the only thing redeeming about his scholarship is that it was only two years long.
