Bought my dad a Beertender for his Christmas....anybody here own one? He's retired and has always wanted draft beer in his den. Actually found one (there are two companies that make it, Krups and T-Fal....the T-Fal one runs a little cheaper, but does the same thing. I found one online for $63 new -- huge bargain. The only bad thing is right now only Heineken makes the 4-5 L kegs for them....I'm not a big Heineken fan, but I can say if I've got a choice of a Heineken draft or bottled beer, I'm taking the draft. They are currently test marking Newcastle Brown Ale 4-5L kegs in major markets, so hopefully that will be available to the general public soon....I know in the European market they have more than just Heineken available, so hopefully other beers will follow suit. |

I don't have one, but i have thought about getting one. I like Heineken, and have bought a few of the mini kegs. I don't think i would get the beertender though unless there was a bigger selection of beers available. |

I would definitely like there to be a bigger selections of beer, but at $63 it's really hard to turn down. The T-Fal version doesn't have a couple of features that the Krups has (the Krups has an indicator to tell how much beer is left, although the reviews I've read on that extra say that the indicator doesn't work well). The Krups version lists at about $270 and the T-Fal lists at $150, so I doubt I'll find it this low again....especially if more beers become available. I know that Newcastle has been released in Chicago, NY, and LA test markets and the rumor is that Amstel light will be released shortly. |

Maybe heineken will eventually release their "special dark" beer in the mini keg. If you haven' had it, it is pretty good. And that is a hell of a deal on the price. If you really want to make your dad happy, just go all out and install a tap somewhere in his house. then he can have all kinds of selection. |

Teacher's salary, man. Anyway, right now the only beers available in the United States in the 5 L kegs that the beertender uses are Heineken, Heine light, and Newcastle Brown Ale (in just a couple of markets). There are other beers in foreign markets that are available, all of which are Heineken beers (the Netherlands has like seven available, including Murphy's Irish Red). No special dark yet anywhere. BTW, had another find that I got for my sister's family: the soda fountain jet by sodastream. Allows them to make pop from normal tap water -- using CO2 cartridges to carbonate the water and then soda flavoring. Works out to about 25 cents per 12 ounces and you can carbonate it as little or as much as you want and the pop will stay fresh. |

That's sweet brum! I haven't used one but I converted an old fridge into a kegerator about two years ago and believe me, it's the gift that keeps on giving! I started brewing my own beer in old 5 gal soda kegs so the cost is around 50 cents per beer depending on the type I'm brewing. Just having a cold beer on tap though no matter how it comes is worth having around. Great gift and a real nice price, a righteous Den enhancer! |
