Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Jio Fontan may have played his first year and a half of college for a struggling team but the point guard's talent has not gone unnoticed. So when news broke the past week that he was transferring out of Fordham University, several high major programs have looked to get involved. Indiana, Southern California, Tennessee - that is just a few of the schools that have been mentioned with the 6-foot-0, 185-pound sophomore.

Fontan played for the prestigious St. Anthony program
The young player has been very productive in his short career in New York. For the five games of this season, Fontan averaged 15.0 points and 4.2 assists per game. A year ago he averaged a team-high 15.3 points and 4.7 assists per game. Those numbers were the highest for any freshman in the Atlantic 10. In conference play he upped his scoring to 16.8 points per game. But it was a difficult year at Fordam as the Rams went just 3-25. This season has not gone much better as the A10 school has just won twice in seven games.

The announcement that Fontan is leaving comes after Fordham fired its head coach, former NC State guard Dereck Whittenburg. That news came down last Thursday, December 3rd and this Monday it was announced that Fontan will get his release. Then yesterday SNY.tv reported that Fontan was at the Indiana-Pitt game in New York on Tuesday night and will be taking an official visit to Bloomington this weekend. The Hoosiers host #4 ranked Kentucky on Saturday in a nationally broadcast game on CBS.

This is not the first time Fontan has sought a release from Fordham. Following his freshman season he asked for the paperwork to transfer but Fordham athletic director Frank McLaughlin would not grant him his release and he eventually decided to return to the program. There have been reports that Fontan's current release may not allow him to transfer to any schools in the tri-state area around New York City.

Fontan was a prized catch for a school like Fordham. He was a member of the Rivals150, coming in at #147 in the final rankings for the Class of 2008. He played his high school ball at the tradition rich St. Anthony's program in Jersey City, New Jersey. That is the same Bob Hurley coached team that Indiana has recruited hard since hiring St. Anthony alum Roshown McLeod as an assistant coach. At St. Anthony Fontan played with a star studded lineup that included Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor, a player that signed originally with Tom Crean at Marquette, as well as starting Pitt guard Travon Woodall and heralded Villanova frosh Dominic Cheek.

As a senior at St. Anthony, Fontan chose Fordham over offers from St. John's, George Mason and other lesser known Division I programs. More offers would have likely come his way had he not made a fairly early commitment. He chose the Rams in March of his junior year at St. Anthony. Fontan, whose full first name in Jiovanny, was labeled by Rivals.com as the best defender recruited by a mid-major program from the Class of 2008.

If Fontan transfers to another Division I program at semester break, he would be eligible to play for that school following the end of the fall semester of 2010. At Indiana that would mean he could suit up in mid-December, or about a year from now. He would be a junior then and have a full year of eligibility as a senior for the 2011-12 season.

Where did this article come from?
Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men’s views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it.

The only reason I ask is that IU's rivals site has that article posted as premium content.

LOL! Not at all, I'd be more than willing to post premium content; but most all of it sucks and is hardly worth reading, much less actually paying for. I'm just curious, though: Why does a Boiler like yourself pay $100 per year subscription to an IU board?

Well, i subscribed to Gold and Black.com for a year, and as you said, it was kinda crap. The premium content wasn't really worth paying for.....

When you sign up for Gold and Black you get all the sites, peegs included.

Today i was curious about a premium article on G and B and signed up for the 7 day free trial (with a different credit card). Once again, severely dissapointed (will let it run out after the week), but i ran across that, and thought it was at least semi-interesting, so posted it.

I had no idea a premium membership to one site would allow me to view premium articles from every site in Rival's network. Interesting. Thanks.

GBI/Peegs = completely and utterly worthless.

As for Fontan, the last thing we need is another guard. c'mon...

Both schools recruit a lot of the same players, and there are posters (not Peegs or his mods) that post useful information.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

i've read about 30-40 articles from the premium side. mostly filled with speculation, unconfirmed or anonymous sources, information that typically goes nowhere, or leads from facebook status.

I mean, who can forget the, "It's down to three names" article about the next IU coach. Tom Crean was named coach less than 24 hours later and he wasn't one of the three names listed in the premium article. Fucking funny...and even more worthless. rivals/scout are the worst sites out there in terms of accuracy. just because you luck out on guesses every now and then doesn't in any way make you an elite news source. in addition, their scouting reports are notably inaccurate and subjective. their star ratings are laughable and inconsistent. i trust espn more than scout/rivals....and espn sucks.
