Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I hate ND but they are prob the best fit. Another scenario is for TCU to join the Big12 and Missouri to move to the Big10. Mizzou would be a good add

Butler isn't even close to remotely fitting in the B10. It is a great school but is way too small. The best fit by all accounts (academia, location, sports, etc.) is ND.
I said ND the most likely choice. I was just talking about darkhorses. By the way, what is the enrollment of NW? Aren't they small like Butler?
NW has 18000 plus enrollment. Butler has 4500
Butler is also a private school......aren't all the big conference public schools?
Good point, I didn't know that.
NW is private...

Any Big 12 north team, would be a decent add.......syracuse, wv, pitt would all be decent adds......louisville and kentucky would be decent adds........

I REALLY wish that one of the decent mid majors, like BYU, TCU, Boise, Utah......were in the midwest or at least closer.........someone like that would be ideal.

Northwestern is a private school. The big ten started with university of chicago which is a private school, and went after Notre Dame a couple times, which is a private school. I don't think that Public or private has much to do with it. Its more: located in the midwest, has division 1 size, and has excellent academics.

Somebody probably mentioned it, but what about Vanderbilt? Its a smaller school, but it does have div 1 programs and is a member of the Association of American Universities (which is apparently a Big Ten requirement and an exclusive club. Syracuse and Pitt are also members). And its in Tennessee, which isnt that far, although its not adjacent to a Big Ten state.

As someone mentioned above, Mizzou would be a good fit. I also think Vanderbilt wouldn't be too bad, but seems a little to far south. What about Iowa State? I think Syracuse is too far east. WVU and Pitt seems to be the most logical. Why would any of those teams leave the Big East? Why would Vanderbilt leave the Southeastern conference? I can see Mizzou and Iowa State leaving the Big 12.

NW only has an undergrad enrollment of 8K plus...not 18K. http://www.ugadm.northwestern.edu/freshman/facts/

not quite the level of mid-conference schools you were looking for...but what about a team from the MAC? miami of ohio used to be pretty solid in b-ball and football...though they've trailed off drastically of late.

otherwise, i think all the obvious choices have already been mentioned. i'd lean toward pitt, vandy or mizzou...in that order...

To be eligible to be in the big ten, the school must be a research school. Notre Dame isn't a research school so I doubt they could join. Given their academic prestige, I wouldn't mind if the rules changed to allow them in though.
The Big Ten has went after Notre Dame before....expect that the Big Ten will change the rule for the right fit.
aren't you a teacher?

haha, seriously, we do need to add a 12th schools. Preferably one with good academics, and a good balance of good athletic teams. I.E. not just basketball and football, but soccer, volleyball, etc. How about a dark horse like Villanova?
Yes, I am a teacher.

Which is why I'm going to have to ask you to capitalize the first letter in every sentence. Also, there should be no comma between 'academics' and 'and.' Lastly, there should be a comma after 'teams' followed by a non-capitalized 'i.e.' that is followed by another comma.

Obviously there are some MAC schools that would jump at the change ($). I don't think there is a real fit....but the MAC added Temple, putting them at 13 teams so logistically a loss of one team wouldn't hurt.

Wow, I did not know that. I live in Muncie and graduated from Ball State, but did not know they added Temple to the MAC. I know they played them this year, but as far as I knew, they were still part of the A10.

here's a map that pretty much provides the geographic possibilities. private or public is not an issue.
