Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

wow, to think of how many deserving kids cant get a schlorship

kinda makes you wonder how our country is so far behind in higher education? we focus on dumb/lazy athletes instead of a kid who has a brain and knows how to use it.

sad and pathetic

i saw that on OTL today. that is disgusting, and honestly, i could have suggested this was happening just by watching FSU's games. I promise you they aren't the only school in the South doing this.

Cases like these are tough, because there are people who do have LDs and do need help. But to suggest the vase majority of the athletic scholarship holders have LDs just screams abuse. My brother, who just graduated from Purdue last semester, has ADHD. He received help from Purdue, but only after getting several tests from psychologists certifying that he actually had ADHD, and his help mainly was extra time on tests and some specialized software that helped him in studying his textbooks. It wasn't very easy to get the help, and that's the way it should be. Its just atrocious that an athletic program would use this legitimate help to get athletes who aren't qualified in to their programs, and then push them through school. Athletic programs bring in money and prestige to a school, but their main priority should be to give scholarships to individuals who are academically fit and athletically fit to go through the programs.

and to add to the fact that many of the kids on FSU don't actually have L.D., they just were educated improperly.

Thats what I mean, there is no way 1/3 of the football team and 2/3rds of the basketball team legitimately have LD.

Or more likely they were allowed to skim by in pud courses and retain eligibility.

There is no LD for laziness....and there is no LD for a university who accepts them.

to clarify, i didn't mean educated improperly as in their teachers in HS or wherever weren't adequate. i mean that they were allowed to skate by the rules, and take classes that were far easier than what most college-bound kids were taking. we live in a culture today that tells young athletes (especially african-american athletes), that as long as they are good at playing x sport, they can go to college and make money.
