I just heard in the Dan Dakich show that Steve Alford has his New Mexico team rated 19th in the country. Good for him. |

Worse than Sampson? |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

probably. we were able to make a clean break from sampson, and everyone was on board with it. firing one of your own is always a messy situation. i was mostly referring to post-sampson, alford would have been a terrible hire as opposed to crean. |

It'd be an interesting hire. I think Alford needed to get out of the B10 and Midwest. He's got a real advantage in recruiting in being in the West (proximity to recruits), but also being able to use his contacts in Missouri, Iowa, and Indiana. I think any coach that is going to take over at IU needs to have an established resume at a major conference school before he arrives. Alford didn't really establish anything at Iowa. |

Its been a good start for former Hoosiers in general. I noticed this on Peegs: http://indiana.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1029937 Alford, Knight, and Davis are a combined 29-1. Crawford is averaging 18, Holman and Keeling nearly 15 at Detroit, Shaw 12 at Nevada, Bassett 12 at Ohio, and Ben Allen nearly 10 and 7 boards at St Mary's. Hollway, Ebanks, and Vaughn are all averaging double digits. |

...no matter who the IU coach is and how much success they have, i will always wonder how Alford would have done at IU... |

i'd take maurice creek over any of those fools. i wouldn't mind having devin ebanks, but christian watford ain't to shabby himself. as far as jordan crawford, he's getting exactly what he wants. he's an average player, on an average team, that's allowed to shoot as much as he wants. anybody could score 18 points a game if they are allowed to jack up that many shots. |

I was at the Cross-Town shootout and watched Crawford against UC. First off, he didn't start for some reason. I can only assume he got caught smoking another doobie since it seemed solely to be a disciplinary benching as he played most of the game. Second, the dude jacked up more idiotic shots than anyone else on the court that night, and he should have had some stiff competition for that award. Since he's not Kobe, he should have no business taking about half of the shots that he threw up. And it seemed like the coach and other players were just fine with him shooting like an out-of-control 12 year old. Just ridiculous. |
