This is from a research article in the Journal of Sport Science. It is mainly my point. In this study, we examined the pattern of foul calls exhibited during 365 NCAA basketball games during the 2004–2005 season. Results of the analysis indicate that officials are more likely to call fouls on the team with the fewest fouls, making it likely that the number of fouls will tend to even out during the game. This increased probability increases as the foul differential increases. In addition, there is a significant bias towards officials calling more fouls on the visiting team, and a bias towards foul calls on the team that is leading. The result is that the probability of the next foul being called on the visiting team can reach as high as 0.70. Finally, the implications of this officiating bias are explored, including the fact that basketball teams have an incentive to play more aggressively, leading to more physical play over time. |

Yes, I have a job. And you know what kind of job that it is. I work at night, so I'm up at night. |

I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. Well, what I do is in the real world, so I'm not sure of your point there. And I've yet to graduate, so I haven't put that to use yet. |

Let me figure what out? I'm sort of missing your whole point here. And I'm still in college to get my undergrad. And there are reasons for that that you just wouldn't understand or care about, so I'll save you the details. Thanks for being a dick about it though. |

You made a comment once about how you never went to class, that could have something to do with it. You don't have to get so personal with your insults. Just giving you a little ribbing, kind of like you do to me on occasions. |

I agree with your point. Refs definitely know if the fouls are one-sided, and generally, they try to even it out somewhat. If team A technically fouled 40 times and team B fouled 20 times, it doesn't mean that they'll even it out to 30/30, but they probably will end-up calling the game something like 35/25. So if your defense tends to foul more than most, you'll get more calls that go your way just by the relative odds. The fouls are also going to generally all even out in the second half (refs generally review the stats for the game at halftime) or at the more physical team's homecourt because of the fans reactions. |

Those numbers and statistics are great, but not really the point. My argument is that Purdue doesn't foul. They just play more physical than others. Physical != foul. And here's a little validation.
If the guy I'm sure you'd say is the whiniest coach in America doesn't whine about us fouling, maybe that'll back up what I've been saying. |

I didn't hear the audio, but I bet Weber was being a tad sarcastic when he said that. |

I honestly have no idea. I yanked it from the ESPN write-up. Since that would ruin my point, I'm going to refuse to acknowledge that as a possibility. |
