What will everyone say if IU continues to be a Jekyl/Hyde team from an ability/effort standpoint next season and they finish under .500? Will some of you continue to use the experience excuse, or will you finally admit that maybe Crean is a little overrated and really isn't the guy to get IU back to national prominence? I'm sure most of you will make comments that have nothing to do with answering the question. I'm used to that. It would be nice for the people who say I have no credibility to finally step up to the plate and put your opinion out there, but my expectations are low. |

I'm pretty sure if we finish below .500 next year most of us, myself included, will be really disappointed. The question is if we end up being competitive and finish about .500, make the NIT or even are a bubble team, will you flip-flop? |

I will call it like I see it no matter what happens. Playing hard is a bare minimum to me, so you aren't going to get bonus points for effort. If Crean is making good coaching decisions, making adjustments from game to game that gives IU the best chance to win, the players are playing smarter, etc.....then I don't care if IU finishes 11-21. Making the NIT isn't really a good indicator because you can load up your schedule with cupcakes and play teams that have major defections which can make your record appear better than you really are. On the flip side, you can run into a bunch of mid majors with a bunch of juniors/seniors, get beat on some bad calls or ridiculous shooting nights, and other anomalies that make your record worse than you really are. |

Isn't giving effort the same as playing hard? Posted Image |

i'd prefer to focus on the rest of this season first, and leave next season debates and discussions for the slow offseason. but, anyhow, i've already posted that as of now 16-14 is probably a realistic target for next year's team...so i wouldn't be that surprised if they flipped that to 14-16 or even slightly worse. too many variables that aren't known right now to be able to be any more accurate. however, if the effort does not start to come on a nite in and nite out basis...then i'm with you in starting to raise hell...though i can't say my rants would necessarily be directed at crean. i'd have to see first exactly how things had transpired. on the ability side, i really don't want to touch it right now...cause we absolutely have to get tougher in the interior...and i'm not really sure that can be expected to the degree necessary for next year given our personnel. and i want to see if creek is able to come back at 100 percent with a full summer of ball under this belt. but at this point next season, lack of experience and youth can no longer serve as a de facto crutch...instead of getting tired about now and looking like a deflated team, the opposite needs to happen - with players growing in confidence and coming together. and hoping that's exactly what happens... |

I fully expect to be competitive next year with a much better record. I can see an NIT run with being a bubble team at best. |

Yes they are. In another thread, I saw atleast 2 excuses for not playing hard. Youth and 'nobody else plays hard each night'. I'm not giving bonus points out for guys who try, that should be the bare minimum. If they aren't trying, I blame the coach for leaving them in the game. I'd rather watch walkons get beat by 66 while trying hard, than watching this team when they played OSU, NW, and WISC. I haven't seen the replay of the MSU game yet, but I saw highlights of guys getting wide open jump shots with nobody even close or even trying to close out on them. Hopefully the whole game wasn't like that. |

Positives for next year: Another year of experience, Maurice Creek returns Negatives: The 2010 class isn't really eye popping. I'd go with slightly above .500 as the expectation. |

I personally don't think they will finish below .500. But if they do, I will most likely flip the other way, depending on the strength of schedule and baring injury to a key player again. I think if Creek hadn't gotten hurt, we could have had 5 or 6 wins in the B10 and that would have put us closer to .500 this year. So I think think we will be better next year and will be above .500. |
