| Welcome to Our Hoosier Board! Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions. Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful. Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine! i like the hulls call... again though, if hulls is going to be that guy then he has to see a lot of court time...and i do think that may be an issue. a lot will depend on defensive development of the personnel...and not just hulls... |

hulls has to get some defensive intensity before he becomes the leader. But i must say, i'll pick him to take the ball down the court over rivers ANYDAY. br |

ideally...as if we're in this position, but fuck it...rivers would simply have to focus on being our defensive specialist. |

That is not what I am saying. I am saying not sign anyone because there wasn't anyone left. I just don't think having Dumbass last year didn't make that much of a difference because last year didn't count for Crean. Everyone on this board said last year was a scramble and a wash for Crean. He shouldn't have signed Jobe or Dumbass and just save the scholarships for this year or next and use walkons last year. I just don't think we would have been any worse off last year and he would have been two scholarships up for either this year or next. It would have given him more time to maybe sign some better JUCO players with the class of Watford, Creek, Hulls, Capo, and Elston. Personally, I will be one IU fan that will be glad to see Dumbass gone and I am sure there are others out there. Also, I did think he hurt this team because he took too many ill advised 30 foot 3 pointers early in the shot clock, frequently turned the ball over in every game, gets lost on defense, and I have seen freshman play much better than him. |

Good post, Jazen, it's good to see you on the board again. Four years ago, Painter was suffering through a bad first season. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/teams/schedule?teamId=2509&year=2006 The team competed well in the first half most of those games, and I gave Painter credit for getting the team prepared and motivated to play. Then they tended to run out of steam down the stretch, which was understandable. I clearly remember wondering if Painter had the mettle to be a top tier BT coach, but was relatively patient to see what he could do with more talent. I know my patience would have worn pretty thin if Purdue had been suffering through epic beat-downs like IU has been the last couple of weeks. I think you have to realize this team has come close to some big wins. Imagine if you could have pulled off the Purdue upset recently. It was very doable, and it would have been huge. Personally, I think it's fine for a fan to be critical like Evil has been. But at the end of the day, you need to give Tom Crean two more years to show what he can do. The jury is still out this year. |

What're you talking about? Jobe and Dumes are gone after this year. I'm not a fan of either, but they're only on the books this year when we already had scholarships to spare. Crean could've signed a better JUCO for this year if he wanted, but apparently none were interested. |

Good post, Lars. I think it's perfectly fine for Evil (or anyone else) to be critical as well. I've got to admit, I've been inclined to question a few things myself. I said it at home (before coming back to this board) that I could not for the life of me figure out why Derrick Elston wasn't getting more minutes. There have been times that I've questioned Crean's strategy in particular games, ie, using the press that was monumentally effective in one game, but abandoning it entirely the next game in the exact situation. I realize there are match up, personnel issues at certain times, but I'm talking about objective strategy. I can understand that Jeremiah Rivers had some street ball in him when the season started, and his basic game essentially reflects what you see on the playground. Errant decisions and passes, erratic ball handling, over dribbling, under dribbling, (always) getting caught on the baseline, etc. When measured against the rest of his game, one or two great defensive plays doesn't seem to warrant the time he spends on the floor and turning the ball over. As much as I hate to say it, I almost feel more secure seeing Danny Moore bring the ball down. How sad is that? What I don't understand is why he's still getting minutes, and after a full season, his game hasn't changed one bit. It's simply narrowed down to a certain set of factors: 1. No one's teaching him 2. He's being taught, but ignores it on the floor 3. He's being taught, can't adjust, and there's just simply no one to fill his spot Instead of leaning heavily to one side or the other, I like to step back and try to look at things objectively and realistically. I don't care what coach you are in this league, if you don't have the talent on the floor, you're going to take the hits. Now that UNC's talent has gone to the NBA, Roy Williams doesn't quite look like the "genius" he was last year. Inject any coach in America into Tom Crean's situation, and I'd bet almost anything the results wouldn't look much different. To judge Tom Crean at this point and wonder why we haven't won 15 games would obviously be premature, and pretty ridiculous really, but I see no reason to question game to game strategy when some of us have been watching basketball all of our lives. I'd do the same thing if we were 30-3 and felt the coach made a stupid move. In a nutshell, this team is one of the youngest in the nation and they simply look wore out. Mentally and physically. But even so, the playing time that these freshmen are getting is invaluable, and I have no doubt it's going to pay off in a couple of years. Then and only then will I start to question Tom Crean as a coach. |

Agree, and I think that Hulls has that leader mentality. Very excited to see how he develops. |

Ding Ding! Seeing cRyan get a 30 pt W at Assembly Hall was pretty sickening. Wisky is the BT team I dislike the most these days, and I love to see them lose. |
