Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Bo Ryan and it shouldn't even be close. Just like for national coach of the year it should be Boeheim and shouldn't be close.
What has Ryan done ? Make a case.

I'm so tired of this guy getting consideration no matter how the Badgers do. He's a great coach, but he gets love every year.
And yet he's only won Big 10 coach of the year twice, in 2002 and 2003. Wisconsin was pretty well written off this year, no one expected them to do much of anything except maybe be a middle of the pack competitive team. If they win today they'll finish the regular season 23-7, 13-5 in the conference, good for 2nd and 1 game back of 1st. He consistently does more with less and I feel like he did a great job this year and should get coach of the year. Jesus why you jumping my nuts? Its just my opinion. MSU and Purdue were expected to be one of the teams that won the Big 10, and you did. So why do Painter and Izzo necessarily deserve it over Ryan?

Not jumping your nuts Mongo, just asking you to make a case. And I didn't say who deserved it.

The same people who write Wisky off every year also say that their style of play is what helps them win. It's a common perception that he does more with less, that's his reputation. It has stuck to him and he always benefits from it. Get better players Bo, show me you can recruit too.

Fair enough. Honestly I think it should go to either Ryan or Painter, I'd be ok with either one getting it. I just don't want Matta to win.

There are people, like Cam, who think that Ryan recruits as well as he possibly can. Even if you believe he doesn't recruit well enough however, what does that have to do with the COY conversation?

Come on now, you can't tell me you're not impressed with Wisky finishing a game or two out of first when they lost their best player for half the season.

Come on dreach, you are seriously going to use a DCism in your argument ? With all due respect, you seem to disagree with him quite a bit. But that's beside the point.

The recruiting jab has nothing to do with COY consideration, I agree. That was just some bonus venom from me.

The wins without Leuer ? NW, Michigan twice, PSU, IU, and at home against MSU without Lucas. Those are games they should win anyway. Losses to Purdue, OSU and Illinois.

It's the same argument every year with Bo. I still submit that the style of play is what gets Wisky a lot of their good wins. That is obviously due to Bo, but it also makes it appear that he does more with less because of some other reason.

Just saying that even one of your own who isn't a huge Ryan fan thinks he's recruiting as well as he possibly can.

It's just tough to deny a guy who is the all time winningest coach in Big Ten history. You may think he has the talent to compete at the top, and so everyone should expect them to be there, but the fact is they ARE there. It's one thing to have talent. It's another to utilize it. Many people think he utilizes his talent better than anyone in the conference. So if he gets COY, that's a pretty good reason why.

The recruiting thing is a complete myth. He's got 5 4-stars and a bunch of 3-stars on his team.

Jared Berggren
Jon Leuer
Keaton Nankavil
Jason Bohannon
Trevon Hughes

Everyone knows that's an inexact science, but it's the easiest thing to go on. That's more quality players than Purdue has on its roster (4 4-stars). He doesn't have lesser talent, the media just decided he was gonna suck for no reason.

Thanks, Maker, I needed some facts to back up my opinion that cRyan is a dick.

Ok. So he has good talent. Went half the year without his best player and they might finish 1 game out of first. So what is unimpressive about their season again?

I think the media, right or wrong, questioned how good they would be because they lost their leading scorer AND their leading rebounder from last year's team. Who did Purdue lose from last year? Calasan? So there were more questions surrounding the Wisconsin basketball program.

EDIT: Make that their top TWO rebounders from last year.

I'm not gonna argue that Purdue lost as much as Wisconsin, they didn't. But every team loses players every year. The point is to have enough solid players to do like the Colts and play Next Man Up. Ryan's done that. He always does that. I don't think he deserves an award for it. As has been said before, the Coach of the Year award is pretty much an apology award given by the media when they undervalue a team. They dealt fine with the Leuer injury, but the only .500 team they beat was MSU (at home, where Izzo never wins). So out of those 8 games, they took care of business against the dregs of the Big Ten and got a good win. Solid. Acceptable. But nothing extraordinary.

Painter, obviously!

And objectively, I can't put together a better argument for him over Bo, so I'm not even gonna try. I just get annoyed with all the Bo love and myths that he has circulating about him that just aren't true.

Haha. Fair enough.

I chose Painter because Purdue was picked to win the Big Ten Championship and they did. Sometimes living up to expectations can be more impressive than exceeding them. That said, I think Painter, Matta and Ryan could all win COY and I wouldn't have a problem with any of them.
