Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

In 1998, Jewel Kirchner was as popular as any female artist. IMO, she is more talented than Taylor Swift by far....she had an incredible two year run and lost a lot of popularity in mainstream. After switching back and forth between genres, she released a fully country album in 2008...and it debuted at #1.

Very, very few country artists maintain mainstream success. I think you can count on Swift being among those.

Oh and by the way, it's nice to have a reasonable argument with you for once without you making fun of me! Don't make a habit of it though ;)

Time will tell, as it does with all things.

i'll admit that she gets airtime ALL the time. if that means popular then, umm, i suppose that means popular. what irks me is that there are FAR more talented musicians out there...and this world would be a better place if the mass media would play music based on talent vs. their management/"supposed marketability." The current pop-music is so dumbed down that it's almost unlistenable.

br
You have to realize that most Americans don't look at music in the same terms as people who have played it such as you do. And you probably do realize that, which frustrates you all the more.

I would never claim her to be a great musician or anything like that. Just saying she brings a certain personality, style, and uniqueness that hasn't been introduced before, and people, on the whole, enjoy it to a ridiculous degree.
Sorry, I see not a single thing that is unique about her. Maybe you simply haven't listened to enough music.

you also have to realize that there are other artists out there that don't get radio/tv love that sell out shows in 1 minute. that sell out every show on tours. that have just as big fanbases in the states as they do in europe, asia, and south america. that WILL still be around in the future or leave behind a legacy. I can't even remember what was number 1 (cd sales) last year during this time but i'll never forget when Nirvana released "Nevermind" (or bleach for that matter). The current "top 10" will NEVER have that sort of significance in the music world. ever...

Indeed. Hell how is she not basically the same thing as Leann rimes. She was a country music star who became very popular very quickly at a young age. She sang a similar type of music about the same basic subject matter with similar lyrics. So were is the "originality." Hell Leann rimes was even a better vocalist than Taylor.

Well Taylor sells out every stop as well.

Last year the #1 album was from some rapper, but total album sales went to TS.

And I would just say that there is a reason that she gets the radio/tv time. There are a ton of companies that promote their artists as much as they can. But there is only so much that labels can do for an artist. Eventually it comes down what the artist can do to please the public.

LeAnn never connected with people the way that Taylor does, and that could be attributed to many different factors. I don't understand why everyone wants to discount what Taylor has done in her short tenure....

I mean, there are artists that I loathe, but I'm not going to say that they aren't popular or that they aren't appealing to a vast majority just because I don't listen to their work.

And maybe she is a one hit, er, two album wonder, who knows? But that doesn't discount the impact that she's had the last couple of years and going forward.

It pains me to say this, but Lady Gaga is probably the most "popular" entertainer in the world right now.

God I hate where music is going....

I'll give you that, but what does that have to do with her originality?

i don't see why you are putting so much more credit in her file when she's no different than the hundreds of other artists that have done the same exact thing over and over and over. she's the flavor of the week. there's nothing about her that shows that her fate will be any different than the others...

We aren't talking about a Bukowski following here. Sure as heck don't know what you are talking about in terms of 'connecting' with people.
