i'll admit that she gets airtime ALL the time. if that means popular then, umm, i suppose that means popular. what irks me is that there are FAR more talented musicians out there...and this world would be a better place if the mass media would play music based on talent vs. their management/"supposed marketability." The current pop-music is so dumbed down that it's almost unlistenable.
br
You have to realize that most Americans don't look at music in the same terms as people who have played it such as you do. And you probably do realize that, which frustrates you all the more. I would never claim her to be a great musician or anything like that. Just saying she brings a certain personality, style, and uniqueness that hasn't been introduced before, and people, on the whole, enjoy it to a ridiculous degree.
Sorry, I see not a single thing that is unique about her. Maybe you simply haven't listened to enough music.
Indeed. Hell how is she not basically the same thing as Leann rimes. She was a country music star who became very popular very quickly at a young age. She sang a similar type of music about the same basic subject matter with similar lyrics. So were is the "originality." Hell Leann rimes was even a better vocalist than Taylor.
LeAnn never connected with people the way that Taylor does, and that could be attributed to many different factors. I don't understand why everyone wants to discount what Taylor has done in her short tenure.... I mean, there are artists that I loathe, but I'm not going to say that they aren't popular or that they aren't appealing to a vast majority just because I don't listen to their work.
I'll give you that, but what does that have to do with her originality? I think her originality has more to do with her personality and the way she connects with people (even though it may be mostly younger people) than anything else.
Even her outfit...with the dress and the cowboy boots is pretty original and you see girls all the time wearing that crap now.

i don't see why you are putting so much more credit in her file when she's no different than the hundreds of other artists that have done the same exact thing over and over and over. she's the flavor of the week. there's nothing about her that shows that her fate will be any different than the others...
br Cuz there have been hundreds of different artists at her age that have shared her success......

It pains me to say this, but Lady Gaga is probably the most "popular" entertainer in the world right now.
God I hate where music is going.... Dude. I hate her soooo much. She is the perfect example of how music has gone to hell.

she isn't unique. she's just another over-hyped pop artist. nothing suggests she isn't.

Cuz there have been hundreds of different artists at her age that have shared her success...... Brandy, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, the aforementioned Leann rimes, Avril Lavigne, Monica, Aliyah (though to be fair she died, so she may have had continued success) and i am sure there are many others. Now those people that i mentioned may not have sold as many albums, but they were all HUGE for a short amount of time, and all have pretty much faded out. Oh a couple of those listed are still around, but they have nowhere near the popularity they did at the start of their career.

Seriously, get over yourself. You think you're so much better than everyone else.

randy rhoads, kurt cobain, bono, bruce dickinson, most of the wu-tang clan, and on and on and on...
you are told to think that taylor is different because they want you to think she is. in reality, she's just another thing they're selling you. and she'll fall from grace just like all the others did.
