Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

what numbers?

if you think cd sales are indicative of popularity, you're either fooling yourself or living in the early 1990s.

Beyonce is up there...I wouldn't say she's definitely, if any, more popular though the last couple of years though.

And that talk about country fans buying anything is hogwash
Yeah i come from a very large family, and most of them are country music fans, as are most of the people i grew up around - i grew up in the country in So. Indiana - and i can tell you country fans will buy just about anything. How else do you account for the popularity of people like Jo Dee Messina, Kenny Chesney, and Gretchen Wilson.

Also, i notice you ignore my statement that country music fans -in general - buy more CD's than that the average fan of other genre's.

michael jackson, the rolling stones, u2, radiohead, the cure, fuck...even yanni have FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR bigger fanbases than taylor and carrie COMBINED will ever have in their entire careers...book it. you're WAY too immersed in the american pop culture media (citing awards and cd sales) to realize that there are other genre's and other music movements happening. lil' wayne even has a bigger following. shit, i bet if i never mentioned them on this board you'd never know who iron maiden was (cuz they NEVER get radio/tv airtime) yet they've sold more than 60 MILLION albums.

you obviously don't understand how the payola system works. people become millionaires on followers like you. trust me, if you stepped outside of this replicated bullshit that pollutes the airwaves, you'd find that there is a whole other world out there of people who actually have talent.

THAT is why we give you a hard time.

How about Coldplay? i am not a huge fan of theirs, but i would imagine if they took the easy route and released and album like every 9 months like country stars do, there record sales would be on a level with Taylor Swift

I didn't ignore it, I just have no reason to believe that it is necessarily true. You say that like this is the politics board ;)

And I'm not saying it isn't true, but I think that people will buy CDs if they like the artists regardless of where they are from.

It could be argued as well that by being a country singer doesn't expose herself to the mass populations of the cities. I know she's a crossover, but most city people listen to rap/urban music I would assume, and they wouldn't buy her CDs at all. So being a country singer would make her sales even more impressive IMO because usually the top sales go to rappers such as Kanye and the like. Just my opinion though.

If you want to use record sales at the barometer, look at the Eagles, their CD from the hell freezes over tour was the top selling album one year during the mid-nineties. Did that mean they were the most popular musicians in the world then? No. Hell i would have even said Garth Brooks was a much bigger star just in that time frame and he is a country musician.

I think there's a difference between having bigger fanbases and being more popular at a given point and time.....

Fanbases are built on a career, whereas popularity is based on "the now." I could be way off my rocker here though.

It's kind of unfair to relate the two, since some artists haven't been around that long, and inevitably, won't have as big of a fanbase.
