Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

And maybe popular isn't the right word that I'm looking for....she's the "hottest" musician right now???

all of those artists still release albums. all of them have more fans than taylor/carrie combined. if we're talking about popularity, i would assume that would mean "who has the biggest following" or "who has the most fans" or "who is the fan favorite"

If you want to put taylor into the shortbus/retard category (i.e. new pop-culture artists), that's your thing....but you're fooling yourself if you think someone like taylor swift is the most popular musician in the world. you're fooling yourself if you think she's even in the top 25 worldwide.

i think you're looking for, "artist who is managed by a company that pays the most to get her music on the air in order to fool people into thinking that she is better than the rest."

Facts that her company pays the most to get her music released?

When she came to Evansville (and we've had a bunch of people come here to play, although i realize there a TON of great artists that haven't) she set a record and sold out under a minute.

wow...a pop-country artist sold out a show in evansville, IN. lol.

billy joel sold out 12 consecutive shows in madison square garden in 2006. oh wait, but he's not popular because mtv doesn't play his music every 20 minutes (literally).

It wasn't the fact that she sold out in Evansville....

If you're going to bash her and make statements, I'd like to see some links to back it up.

Otherwise it's going to be a mindless argument between one person that likes her and the other that thinks she sucks on a personal level and won't ever admit that is what she is based on accomplishments.

This argument will obviously go nowhere at this rate.

And people that run radio stations will play music that people want to hear...their jobs depend on it. They're not going to play music that they like and no one else does because they want to keep their jobs.

And the fact that they play her music more than anyone else kind of proves my point. The same reasoning that ESPN shows the Yankees and Red Sox more than anyone else...because they have the biggest following...

To add to that, it doesn't matter what the teams following are in the pasts....in the present, more people care about the Yankees and Red Sox than the other teams, and hence, they show them the most. You could also put the Cards and Cubs in there.

it's CHEAPER to report on one or two teams or play 5 or 6 artists vs. doing the socially responsible thing and seeking out the best talent and putting on international display. it's very easy to notice this trend by simply reviewing the charts from the 80s, to the 90s, to now. WAY more repeat plays nowadays. In the era of downsizing, the music industry will continue to go with the "less is more" approach.

Ok well you're a musician and you know infinitely more about whatever that is you speak of than I. I'm not going to act like I'm an expert in the field. Basically I'm just trying to fight for a little respect for her. Maybe she is the most "popular" person right now and maybe she isn't. Either way, IMO you come off as acting like she's a piece of shit that people just listen to because they're forced to.

Whether you like her or not, you have to admit that she's wildly popular and amongst the most sought after names in the music industry today...could you at least admit so much?

i'll admit that she gets airtime ALL the time. if that means popular then, umm, i suppose that means popular. what irks me is that there are FAR more talented musicians out there...and this world would be a better place if the mass media would play music based on talent vs. their management/"supposed marketability." The current pop-music is so dumbed down that it's almost unlistenable.

You have to realize that most Americans don't look at music in the same terms as people who have played it such as you do. And you probably do realize that, which frustrates you all the more.

I would never claim her to be a great musician or anything like that. Just saying she brings a certain personality, style, and uniqueness that hasn't been introduced before, and people, on the whole, enjoy it to a ridiculous degree.
